re: 2019-2020 Season Long Ski Thread - PearlyBaker
50 and this is the first attempt at skiing? I almost recommend to just skip i
If you’re in decent shape and that’s a big if, it is totally worth it to learn to ski at 50. There are lot of people who learn later in life and move to the maintains in retirement to ski everyday. The c...

re: Best all wheel suv for snow driving - PearlyBaker
Subaru is the answer here. I drive up Loveland Pass every day in the winter and have passed countless Jeeps, SUV’s, and 4x4 pickups stuck in the snow bank. Snow tires make a huge difference too though, there’s no amount of snow I won’t drive in with my beat up old Forester with snow tires. ...

re: Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead poet & lyricist, passes - PearlyBaker
RIP to one of the all time great lyricist.
Poets may not last forever, but their poetry does.
A poet he certainly was, his great grandfather was Robert Burns (I think I remember hearing that anyway) ...

re: Breckenridge, CO things to do/places to eat recommendations - PearlyBaker
What's some good activities around the area for this time of year
Hiking, biking, and golf are the big three. Atv and side by side rentals are a great way to spend the day as well. Another poster mentioned going to Melanzana in Leadville, they make awesome stuff at cheap prices but th...

re: Breckenridge, CO things to do/places to eat recommendations - PearlyBaker
We love going to Colorado in the summer, specifically Breckenridge, but I'm just never impressed with the food.
I live in Summit, you come for the outdoors not the food. Most of the better places have already been mentioned in this thread but don’t be expecting anything special other...

re: Colorado is fricking beautiful - PearlyBaker
Beautiful state but half is the desert and Denver is getting rediculous. I find Utah to be much more beautiful and the skiing is better. however it doesn’t compare as you can drink more than a 3% beer and smoke pot in Colorado.
Half of Colorado is plains and half of UT is desert, de...

re: Best family ski trip location? - PearlyBaker
Going to go against the grain here, but I wouldn't recommend Keystone for your first trip. The mountain doesn't have many greens. You will be doing the same 6-7 runs over and over again(1 run in particular).
Keystone is flat, flat, flat. Plus they have night skiing which is usually ...
You would be well advised not to drive back from Colorado into Texas carrying a bunch of weed, especially the derivatives like oil or wax.
Can confirm, I got harassed at a rural highway rest area driving through TX with CO plates not too long ago...
Who's still skiing? I'm still skiing.
I called it a season on Wednesday, I went out on a huge late season storm cycle though. Tuesday was one of th best days I had all season. I made it to 190 days on skis this season and I’m already looking forward to next winter....

re: 2018-2019 Season Long Ski Thread - PearlyBaker
US resorts are pricing people out. Ridiculous.
They aren’t pricing people out of skiing, they are pricing them towards buying a pass (ikon or epic). Many mountain towns have a legitimate gripe with the big passes but they really do make skiing more accessible for your average fam...
So I'm wondering if the shuttle would be the way to go?? Just for piece of mind
100% yes. Once you’re in town you can walk, take the summit stage, or Uber anywhere you need to go. We’re getting feet of snow on top of a daily melt & thaw cycle now, an inexperienced winter driver in a ...

re: 2018-2019 Season Long Ski Thread - PearlyBaker
I think it really depends on your skiing ability. I find that if you are beginner-intermediate, the Basin runs out of terrain, especially groomed terrain, quickly. Even advanced skiers can run out of options. But if you are truly able to ski pretty much anything a mountain can throw at you an...
