Deal includes Batman

The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T has reached a deal to acquire Time Warner for more than $80 billion. News of the merger first surfaced on Friday, when Reuters and Bloomberg reported that the deal could top $85 billion. If successful, AT&T will gain control of huge entertainment and news brands including HBO, Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CNN, and resembles efforts by competing ISPs in recent years to create enormous media conglomerates.
Since one of Time Warner's holdings is DC Comics, the wireless company will also be acquiring Batman.
AT&T's deal with Time Warner follows another major acquisition last year, when it acquired DirecTV for $48.5 billion. Other similar mergers include the Comcast / NBC Universal deal, which completed in 2011, and Verizon's purchase of AOL and Yahoo over the past year.

Yep, this has too big for your britches written all over it. The good news: CNN couldn't suck any more in terms of media bias/shitty ratings so hopefully AT&T will make positive changes in that regard.

Now all they have to do is buy Yahoo and they'll own everything again. This time, they probably already bought the right senators and congressmen.
And this isn't the 80's. With Obama/Clinton in the White House, this deal gets made.
See you later, free market.

Where is CenturyLink in that chart?
Left out that they acquired Qwest along with Embarq, Savvis and Tier 3 and Cognilytics

AT&T is offering $107.50/share, which is well above the current market value of Time Warner. They are paying $80billion for something valued by the market at around $67billion, basically taking a $13billion loss on the deal. This is pretty much in line with the market cap AT&T has lost.

Just think what a bigger deal this would be right now if the merger of AT&T and T-Mobile wouldn't have gotten blocked a couple of years ago.

I had actually somehow managed to forget about that. What a great thing that was blocked. Amazing what a little competition can do. T-Mobile constantly putting pressure on the duopoly and stealing subs.
