But seriously... there is some 65+ year old British guy that is beating the ever living shite out of his wife right now because he is so pissed Germany looked like shite in PKs after how they've tormented England from the spot.

Germany choked. Plain and simple. How does a professional soccer player completely miss the goal on a PK?

I'll be outside grilling and being social. However, the amount of WW1 and WW2 references that could have been made will not be forgotten.

Professional basketball players Miss free throws all the time

Same way a field goal kicker misses a 40 yarder.
Overthinking

Are we sure he didn't try to initiate a two-front approach (without knowing his history) before taking the shot and then not sure where to focus his strengths at the last moment?

I am so glad American football doesn't end playoffs with FG kicks. Should play till someone scores.
If you kick a fg on your first possession and the other team doesn't. The game is over. If you score in overtime in soccer you keep playing until the end of overtime. That's not the case in the NFL.

The ref was horrendous, but like the non-handball call against Spain in the Euro quarters, just because you’re on the wrong end of a bad call doesn’t excuse the overall performance. Nagelsmann has looked out of his depth, and with Klopp sitting out there, I can’t imagine he’ll be around much longer.

Making a free throw is significantly more precise than hitting the goal on a penalty kick.

Not to mention the irony that, in these overtime scenarios, only one sport ends the game if it's still tied at the end of over time... and it's not soccer.

They don’t end in a tie in the post season.

And kicking a field goal is significantly easier than making a penalty for professionals at their respective sport. Yet misses still happen.
