I am so glad American football doesn't end playoffs with FG kicks. Should play till someone scores.
If you kick a fg on your first possession and the other team doesn't. The game is over. If you score in overtime in soccer you keep playing until the end of overtime. That's not the case in the NFL.
Let us not overlook CFB, where each team gets a chance to score. And if it's still tied after 2 OT, each team gets the ball on the 2 yard line.
Not much difference between that and penalty kicks.
And while we are punching holes in their grievances about soccer, let's discuss the Stoppage time complaint and how they like to know exactly how much time is left. I present baseball, where there is no clock. It ends when the last team to bat either takes the lead, or fails to equalize.

Should be chalky barring something weird. Netherlands and Morocco could be a good one. Japan will put up a fight, but I don't think it'll be enough.
Something weird happened

You think kicking a 40 yard field goal is significantly easier than putting a shot on goal for a PK?
We will jus have to vehemently agree to disagree

They’re not just trying to “put it on goal” though, are they? They’re trying to score.
Theres a usually pretty gigantic and athletic human whose paid to stop them from scoring standing in their way as well.

Can anyone else recall a two-month calendar wide period with such bad outcomes for both Japan and Germany?

Alright, fine.
How do professional golfers miss putts?
Nobody is guarding the goal and the spectators are not making any noise.
How can a professional not have enough concentration to miss an unguarded hole in silence?

Does America also have to be involved somehow?

Yes. If leg strength isn't an issue, which it isn't for pro kickers. They can all make a 40 yard FG (the equivalent of a kick from the spot in soccer) in their sleep in practice. And unless you totally mishit it, it will never get blocked by the oncoming rushers.
Soccer meanwhile, you can hit a ball perfectly and it can still be saved by a keeper.

Because you entered this argument not knowing much about soccer, so you are going to defend football, whereas the majority of the people on this board watch soccer and football, so they can be more objective.

They choke. Just like these soccer players did.

May to August on that one…

Just like every NFL, and at this point college, kicker missing a 40 yard FG is a choke

Why are you so fixated on making this just about soccer players?
Every athlete in every sport chokes dude.

You lost money on Germany didn't you?

You are correct and I never said they didn’t. Chunks came in defending the choking in soccer saying that it’s the equivalent to missing a free throw.

They rarely, even in pressure moments, completely miss the goal. Thats what always fries me in shootouts. You’re not just a pro, you’re a world class pro. At least hit the woodwork or force the goalie to make saves.

Not at all. My degeneracy only goes so far and betting on country v country contests is definitely not something I’d ever bet on, specially one was low scoring as soccer, because typically the lower scoring the game, the higher chance an upset can happen.

Their keeper making a save is just as bad of an outcome, so why does it matter?
Scoring is all that matters.

Im just saying it’s crazy when you see a penalty blasted into outer space or dragged super wide.
