He made one reckless mistake because three of our guys switched off on a quick throw-in. But he also did a great job with Kane.

Not as confident as some on here are.

It's hard to be confident when Aaronson and Gio Reyna have barely played.

Greg is cautious by nature. There is 100% a world where we go up 1-0 early only to park the bus and let in an 80th minute equalizer

We knew going in that someone wasn't going to be getting minutes they probably deserve, even if we played one of that as a false 9.

If we didn't park the bus against England, we're not going to do against Iran unless it's the 80th minute and we're up.

Relax baw, we got this.

It’s ridiculous Haji Wright has seen almost as much time as Aaronson and more than Gio

I will be wearing all 3 of my rosaries tomorrow, lads. It represents the holy trinity of goals we will score en route to the knockout stages

Still up drinking. I’m a soccer noob but have been lurking this board for a long time and remember how drunk S got for the Leeds regulation tournament 4 years ago. I might do that

Word on the street is Gregg ordered a bunch of hot goats to put in the first row today to distract those goat frickers.

How many PKs will we get today if we start Jesus at the 9? They may murder him in the box. They hate Christians. I can’t imagine they’d be a fan of Jesus.

Honestly, either of these seems likely to me. I hope I'm wrong though.

For those of us who remember the 90 WC, I honestly thought our trajectory, 32 years later, would be beyond praying for a win against Iran to get out of the group stage.

Feels like there's a shite ton of non-soccer tension with this one.

It should have been but how we set things up was almost designed to fail. It’s why not making the WC in 2018 was so crucial. We had to admit our infrastructure was shite. Now we aren’t perfect but we’re at least a lot closer to how European clubs actually find and develop talent. The MLS will hold us back until it gets to the quality of some of the pro leagues in Europe but that may never happen. But we can develop world class players without that component

We just really need to get something early. If Iran is forced to try and score SURELY our quality will find multiple goals running against a team like this eventually. Right? Right?

If we fail to advance today it will be because we sucked it up on set pieces this tournament.

Juergen tried to tell us.

It did since it was built on entertainment than development, but I think we’re working that out now finding the balance. That’s the difficulty for those within US soccer trying to progress the talent vs those trying to make a buck off the league. In any case I think we’ll get there, but I may be 86 by that time rolls around lol.

I mean, we are nearly at the same place as other nations who began their professional leagues in the 1990's. South Korea, Japan, Australia and the US all started professional leagues at the same time. From that perspective, we aren't so bad, but it is going to take elite levels of investment to get over that hump.
