Wondo executed when it mattered. He has been on a tear at club and national level for a while now. Its difficult to slam a guy that keeps scoring goals whenever he plays but I'm sure SCH and a couple others will be along shortly to do so.
It's not just SCH. I'm ok with having the guy who has scored more goals than anyone in the past 4 years in MLS, and who is on fantastic form, playing in the WC. He's great at poaching. He could be useful. Dude is also one of the hardest working guys on the team. Definitely earned it. Last WC we took Buddle and Findley for Christ's sake. Wondo is definitely an upgrade.

Yeah, I wanted Wondo there. I like him.
I don't like how there was a comment about Donovan scoring against an MLS defense. At least half of our team scores on those defenses or even worse (Dutch league is notoriously bad at defense, German 4th division, etc).
WSE, we will never give this fight up.

I have no problem with Wondo on the squad. You just can't convince me that Brad Davis is a better player than Landon Donovan. I like Davis, but I think if you asked every MLS coach, GM, player, fan, etc. to choose between the two, everybody says Donovan.

Yep, there is a skill to being in the right place at the right time and no one noticing you.
He is often referred to as a poacher. I prefer a silent assassin. All of a sudden a goal is scored and Wondo is celebrating.
9 goals in last 10 USMNT appearances.

Talented Guys who didn't earn spots on the team: Green, Brooks, Chandler, and Yedlin.
Guy who is not and will never be world cup quality: Brad Davis
Guys who aren't really talented enough but earned their keep: Wondo, Beckerman, Beasly, Evans, Parkhurst, and Goodson.

Wondo should be there. Guy just knows what to do to score.
And the more I've thought about it, I think Donovan should be as well (as a sub) over a guy like Brad Davis (I don't care what position Klinsmann wanted to play him...Landon can play both), although I think I have less of a problem with the decision as 98 percent of this board.
I did more than my fair share of irritating a few emotionally charged Donovan fans on the day it happened, but I completely understand most of the reaction. I'm just not that mad because Donovan's current form before tonight wasn't earth-shattering for me to be instantly raging at the decision.
I hope the decision pays off for Klinsmann, and I want the guys he picked instead of Donovan to play big roles in getting the team past group stage and a couple rounds into the knockout stage. He's moving US Soccer forward, even though his tactics and methods are questionable in situations like this one.

Buddle and Wondo have fairly similar trajectories to 2010 and 2014, even down to a disappointing season sandwiched in between career years and the World Cup year. Wondo is more productive and didn't benefit from playing next to Donovan, but I'm not overly excited about either guy on the USMNT, even in peak form.
That being said, I doubt people were too pissed when Buddle joined the 2010 team. And while I would have picked Eddie Johnson over either, I was completely indifferent to Wondo vs Boyd since I figured either would be our last offensive option off the bench.
Findlay flat out sucks. He was supposed to be the Charlie Davies replacement but had nothing in common but blistering speed. If we wanted speed and no touch, why not just call in Justin Gatlin?

Tonight did not change anything for me. I think it just further illuminated how bad of a choice JK made.
Also, I have never got to see Landon play live and I am probably going to the Nigeria match, so that really sucks for me. Landon provided me with my favorite sports moment, and now he is involved in my worst one.

I almost made a Wynne joke, too. Wynne and Findley should be the board's answer any time people say Allen Iverson, Dwight Howard, LeBron, or Adrian Peterson would lead us to the World Cup.

3.1 - Only 3 players in @MLS 2014 (Morales, Higuain, Bradley) have averaged more chances created per game than @landondonovan (3.1). Stud.

Still have no idea how Marvell Wynne landed upon soccer as his sport of choice
Could probably have been a badass in other sports more receptive to his physical gifts

I'm listening to a Men in Blazers podcast and Rog Bennett is interviewing Landon and asked Landon, "Have you, Landon Donovan, ever woken up in the middle of the night having night sweats that you wouldn't make the World Cup squad?"

Sportscenter just showed their longest MLS highlight ever. They were just basically shitting on the decision.

Its a decision that should be shite on.

yeah it might have some lulls, but every NT friendly or galaxy game or whatever will bring it right back up. i love it. makes things fun.
i dont see how anyone can support klinsmann after everything that has happened now. with so many coaches, players, donovan himself, etc... all saying how it was the wrong move, it just won't die.
