I had the opportunity to meet him a few weeks ago and spoke to him a bit. I won't pretend that in that short conversation that I got to know him, but my impression is that his media persona is somewhat of a caricature of his real life persona. Not that he's being fake, just less reserved. His job is to entertain after all.

All that to say that I like his media persona, but I don't love it.

What bothers me most about this is that it's the Euro vs American soccer opinion personified. They'll never treat us with respect or value our opinions, and even if this is just an act for the cameras, they're really just turning their personal opinions up to 11.

Lalas has always been fine with me, he may be a blowhard sometimes but he's our blowhard. The casual American who only watches the World Cup don't know who Zlatan is and don't give a shite about his opinions.

I met him in the Charlotte airport a while back. Just told him I was a fan when I passed him and we ended up talking for probably 20 minutes. Good interaction. I think he's playing up a shtick for TV. I kept giving him outs to end the conversation and he was eager to talk game.

Couldn't have been a nicer guy.

Yep, he even says this as much when he's on his podcast.

It's a good listen and he's more genuine than he ever is when he's on the TV desk.

Lalas is who he is.
As people have said, some of his shtick is a caricature.
I’m a fan, as it seems a lot of US Soccer fans need his direction and input.
Lotta players don’t like him cause he calls them out for being pussies, but I’m in agreement with him on that. However, seems like we’re playing with pride and a chip on our shoulder during this WC. Presume us playing at home has something to do with that.

"Are you going to continue to be a bunch of soft, underperforming, tattooed millionaires? You are a soccer generation that has been given everything; you are a soccer generation who's on the verge of squandering everything".

This quote from him when we were on the way to missing qualifying in 2018 was straight fire. And it pissed a lot of the players off, but he was proven absolutely correct.

I know Alexie is loving the attention either way. He’s always been fine to me.

Alexi is very passionate about his country and wears it on his sleeve at all times. Nothing bad about that at all. It's refreshing to see a guy in the US sports world who does not hate his country (like a Rapinoe, Lebron, etc) and shows extreme passion for it.
