Europe is probably still the most elitist and class-rigid continent in the world too. That certainly drives as well.
They don’t understand how we had the audacity to question FIFA on that bullshite suspension. They question decisions of authority over there and they end up in prison, so it checks out I guess.

The United States once lawyers become involved... Not a game the Belgians want to play. We were born for this.

I saw posts on here about the Reddit melts and I went to r/soccer and the thread about the UEFA response reads like the Declaration of Independence or the Speech from Independence Day was just communicated to the world.

r/soccer is good for highlights, and that's it.

The views on Reddit are almost as bad as trying to read their format vs the format here.

If we win tonight and then pull off the upset in the next round, it's going to be good for a lot more than that
The idea of the threat of the United States winning the World Cup is something the European mind cannot comprehend. It's like open carry of semi-automatic rifles in Walmart while you walk around eating the cup of chicken bites after traveling there on roads that literally threaten pedestrians....all in AC

No doubt. We're probably not to that stage yet but just the mere idea of it possibly happening at some point in the future has them freaking the frick out.

There's no doubt if we win tonight we're getting a Cuban, Iranian, and a Russian set of refs against whatever Iberian country we play

Yea probably not to that stage just yet but we are kicking at the door.
If we had a competent us soccer federation I’d say we kick it down in the next two world cups. I don’t trust us soccer to not frick it up. However as our youth development improves and more of our best guys end up in the EPL at some point we will kick that down.

It's inevitable. Each generation we do get better and produce better talent with a lot more depth at the top tier. These guys go to Europe early and develop just like anyone else.
It's really the dividends of the work of Klinsman and Beckham on our youth setup. That is improving with each generation too. I know we have problems with pay for play select soccer, but even with that, we have such a huge population of average to elite athletes in a huge sports culture that we can make up for these inefficiencies.

If they really want to screw us they'll send a CONCACAF ref. That's the only reason. Who would hate the idea of us winning a World Cup more than Europe?
Posted on 7/6/26 at 9:13 am to SlowFlowPro
Imagine if we didn’t have the typical American sports pay for play that we still have creeping in.
Jurgen did a lot of great work on the youth system.
I do recall seeing something about some of the mls academies being good about not being all pay for play in player development

Yeah Jurgen didn't get the results we are hoped for, but he dragged our youth setup into the modern century which is paying massive dividends

Red cards weren’t overturned by phone calls from politicians.
Red calls were overturned by depositing millions of dollars into Sepp Blatter’s bank account.
Rvtrn to tradition!

Jurgen pedaling this narrative has been hilarious, considering the youth academies were already in motion before Jurgen came in.

I see it written all the time but it seems very hard to prove that this happened bc of anything Jurgen actually did.
He said a lot of trite comments that everyone would agree with but I’m not sure he actually did anything tangible.

Oh man the European melt and anti-American hate would be at all time levels if this happened.
Id love it

I think it's pretty funny Belgian fans have already forgotten about the fact that Tielemans straight up shoved the senegalese defender in the back on the game tying goal. and for some reason VAR didn't intervene.
Proper VAR usage and they're not even playing tonight.
eta: maybe it wasn't Tielemans on the second goal, can't remember exactly but point remains.

The biggest thing Jurgen did to the USMNT was rot the "better than the sum of your parts" culture that we had been known for, for so long, which ultimately led to one of the most embarrassing moments in our history (not qualifying for 2018).
Go listen to every former player from that era, they keep saying how toxic the culture was immediately after the 2014 World Cup.

If people want to argue with the "rules" on paper about retroactively overturning a call like that, fine
It's funny to me that all the same people saying "intent doesn't matter you have to go by the written rule" are now saying "well no not those rules."
And saying intent doesn't matter already feels like a stretch, the rules have plenty of classic lawyer, intentionally vague wording such as "intensity if the foul" & "IF the official determines" etc.
