Like I said,I'm torn. But, I still think having a politician get involved with how the rules of the game are enforced sets a bad precedent. Maybe in the future Xi in China ups the ante demanding that an opposing player gets hit for a red card post game because of an uncalled foul if you have a WC in China.

Stop being a little bitch. Go USA!!!!! frick those sissy Europeans.

Again Balogun is the only player sent off all World Cup on a VAR initiated review for a straight red for serious foul play.
The reason he was sent off and no one else has been is because they fricked up the review process. That was reported on Friday by a ton of outlets employing ex-refs from analysis.
So we get objectively fricked by an egregious misuse of VAR, have to play down a man for 30 min, and then it gets fixed but somehow we’re the bad guys?
frick that.

But, I don't like that our President found a need to get involved. In the end it is a game and the politicians should not interfere. He should not have even known the name "Infantino" much less have his phone #.
Maybe FIFA should have done the right thing the day after the game and avoided this whole mess in the first place

I love the outcome in all of this because I want the US to win and Balogun helps to accomplish that. And it should’ve never been a red card.
But Belgium has every right to be pissed. FIFA has handled this terribly and there is zero transparency in these decisions.
If we were in Belgium’s spot, I hope that we would be raising hell about it too.

Look at this bs article from ESPN whining about the decision. All because the writer clearly hates Trump and wants to blame him. Never mind that they have lifted other red cards.

Piers Morgan is whining as well.

It should have been corrected immediately. Belgium shouldn’t have benefited from such a sham.

Are you fricking stupid? Do you not realize the USA is hosting the FIFA World Cup? Do you think there is zero politics involved in a nation hosting an event of this size?

What do I care what a bunch of South Americans think?
I appreciate the sentiment but Belgium is part of Oceania. even if trolling I feel we should avoid leaning hard into the American stereotype of not being bothered about knowing the location of other countries.

I'm with you that the process was fricked up and the red card issued. No debate. No debate that Balogun should be playing. The debate is that a politician inserts himself into the process. It would be like a President strong arming the NCAA because his favorite player was called for an intentional foul / targeting in the 4th quarter of a semi final that was questionable at best.
This should be between the USSF and FIFA. Not Donald Trump and FIFA. People will show up for the games no matter what. TV ratings may be another story except for the final.....especially if it's a rematch between Messi and Mbappe.
Plus I think we could take Belgium without Balogun. Our starting defense has only allowed 1 garbage goal all tournament. Plus the real key to this team is Weston McKennie IMHO. If he's out, you have more problems

Do you realize how soft it is to outwardly state that you are upset that the opposing team’s best player is available to play against you? If that’s their mindset they’ve lost before the match even starts.

It's an actual disgrace
You either overturn it which is fair enough (though should never have to happen under VAR) or it stands.
"Suspending" it for 1 year calls all sporting integrity into it question.

A red card has been suspended in a WC once before, in 1962.
So if Kane gets sent off today and England progress will his be suspended aswell?

Will his hypothetical red card be total horse shite that 99.9% of people say was a horrible call?

It doesn't matter.
If it was bullshite why wasn't it overturned instead of suspended.

Do you realize every sports team in America and beyond complains about the refs and how their respective league handles things?

Totally agree
It’s pathetic it wasn’t overturned Thursday morning
Eta do you think it was a bullshite red card?
