BA may burn to the ground this afternoon. It’s probably good this happened early in the morning.

Winning 1-0 for Argentina would be a national crisis
can’t imagine what a 2-1 loss means for them then.

How the hell could Argentina not score once in run of play while Saudi got 2 in 5 minutes?! 2 shots on goal all game for the Saudis I see and they converted both? What a crazy unexpected result.

Is that normal in soccer that the coach can’t even communicate with the players directly?

I can’t imagine the intensity it takes to be a pro coach like that and everything you coach is filtered through an interpreter. Wonder how much gets lost in translation.

I guess not a lot since they beat the argentines.

Look at the dude's cv. He's coached all over Africa so I'm sure he is used to it.

Well soccer doesn't have the constant need for immediate calls like, say, calling football or basketball plays. It's a lot of strategy/tactics ahead of time so it can work in soccer.

Real management right there. Scaloni stopped attacking through the middle. Why? It was working. Don’t get frustrated by disciplined defensive line play. Just be more disciplined

Two of the most widely spoken languages on the entire continent are French and English.

So I just watched the game and honestly not what I was expecting based on the score. Yeah there's obviously some luck aspect but tactically SA was sound as frick. What a job by Renard.
They played with fire with that back line, but they were disciplined as frick.

Were there any controversial calls, especially with VAR?

Probably better for the matches that day instead of individual match threads. Too busy at work to fix this one.

Argentina had a ton of boderline offsides that ended up wiped out goals. All of the calls were pretty much legit though. One was extremely close and overturned with VAR.
