We are so many more generations away than I ever thought. As a parent now the sad realization has hit me - we are light years away from soccer ever being relevant enough. Because baseball football and basketball have the parents attention and soccer is just an afterthought. Still

From an outsider looking in, plus having talked to parents from various clubs, many youth soccer club coaches are kind of douchey and can be a turn off, especially when you are paying a couple thousand to the team each year per kid.

Depends where you live I guess. Soccer is huge here. So is football. Baseball and basketball...not so much.

It doesn't help that our most soccer crazy population abhors our national team and supports Mexico instead

Why

a 19 year old in a pro academy vs a 19 year college player is no comparison at all

one is professional player who is soccer 24/7 365

the other has limited games and practice restriction

you can make similar money in the US playing other sports
except in a lot of those sports genetics play a significant role on if you can succeed or not. Soccer, tho genetics does play a factor, you can be a world class player no matter your height or size

You are right, the best 11 we have play other sports. Sadly, soccer gets the best of all the leftovers. If we had a team of the best 11, it would look like guys like SaQuon Barkley. This is the same old argument every year. Soccer just doesn't register with male American athletes. Until the MLS starts paying their players the same amount as NFL/NBA/MLB/NHL....it will continue to get lesser athletes. I don't want it to be that way, but its the cold hard truth.

Why?

Because the best players in the world go to academies at young ages
We need that too.
Not school

Look at our best player. He took this route at the age of 16

So why not send more kids to Europe?
Get these kids in tryouts with European clubs.

My son won’t give up high school sports for a chance to play for the US, much less leave the country for a shot. US kids just aren’t hungry enough...especially the ones who play soccer.

If your son was good enough and say Bayern Munich or Real Madrid came to him with a check as well as offered your family a house and job for you in that city

Would you turn it down?

The dysfunctional leadership with US Soccer makes for failure.

This is the only intelligent answer

Wouldn’t be my choice. He’s got to be the one that does it.

We live in a small town, and the Friday night lights are just too bright. Soccer is always played away, you could be the best kid in a tournament, but no one knows come Monday morning. Not the case with what happens on a Friday night.

Wrong board, scared old white men watching too much Fox board >>>> there.

As an old white man I can say this, and if you are young, it's really sad you have let yourself get to this state...

That’s fair enough

I think if I were good enough, I’d take the chance from one of those clubs
Of course the chances of that happening were slim with those two clubs
I just used two of the upper echelon clubs

But until our US academies start increasing , that’s what our players need to do to be better

There’s better options out there for soccer players

In football and basketball college are probably the best options

Labor laws in Europe make it very difficult for US players to move over and join academies. Pulisic has a Croatian passport which allowed him to move to BvB. There are cases like Ben Lederman at FCB that become a cluster for him and his family.

This is true.
Completely forgot about that

Also forgot Pulisic was asked to play for Croatia.
Imagine that midfield with him as well?
