If the protestor is getting paid to be there and protest?
90% of these protest we are seeing right now, the protestors are organized and being paid by foreigners or NGOs.
I believe strongly in the 1st amendment but not necessarily if the protesters are not real protesters.

I'd rather "protest" be more clearly defined- blocking roadways, building entrances, residential zones, etc.. needs to be barred.

As much as these protestors are POS, you really want the left to have the ability to jail you for any reason they see fit? You cannot take that right away. Really short-sided. Allow them to show their arse.

Until you need to protest, then it’s not fair. Not surprised how short sighted you are.

"...or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances..."
Would be happy with an emphasis on the peacefully assemble part and stop pretending that riots are the same thing.

No. My biggest problem is that when a "protest" involves blocking public streets, destroying property, interfering with law enforcement activities, etc. it is no longer a protest. That is rioting, and there should be consequences for rioting. If someone wants to be paid to protest, that's their business, as long as it's actually a protest. Much of what you see today are just straight up riots which is not and should not be constitutionally protected.

If they are getting paid, are they not conducting commercial activities which have a different set of rules on what you can and can't say and do?

If I have something to protest about, I can assure you I would not be there because I'm being paid to be there.
This is only for people there only because they are getting paid to be there.

no way
will say that anything beyond a small handful of bozos should require a permit, and should never block roadways or access to public property for non-participants.

No.
Big difference between protest and physically disrupt.
No one ever has the right to physically disrupt the police or govt. business and that should be enforced harshly like how the Japanese do it.

No.
But I wouldn't mind seeing fighting protestors (sans chemical weapons, bladed weapons and firearms) being considered also to be an expression of First Amendment rights. Let the strong cull the weak.

There is no 1st Amendment right to protest. It says exactly:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I see that congress cannot prevent you from speaking your mind in opposition to them, that you can peaceably assemble, and that you can petition the government for a redress of grievances. But I don't see anywhere in there that these "protests" are an unalienable right that congress may not legislate against. They most certainly do not fall under the heading of "peaceably assemble."
