You are ignoring the fact the population generally looks favorably on the US. Its the Military and ruling Islamists that have such an angst with the US.

Iran is a threat to Israel. Israel owns the US Congress. Therefore, Iran is a threat to the US.

There's some interesting travel vlogs about Iran. Some good, some bad but there are some common threads. The younger people are pretty cool, the girls are hot, the society is safer and cleaner most parts of the US. I'm born to a dual citizen of Israel, so I could never go to Iran but I do think the country is one Trump peace deal and generation away from rejoining the rest of the world.

This video where the guy visits knock-off fast food joints like a fake KFC, Burger Queen, etc is interesting as a juxtaposition to fast-food places in the US. LINK

Are you aware that you're mirroring the same methods that the woke left used to shut down discussions online?

I also don't care that much about muh shipping lanes. It's primarily used for Europe and not us. Not really worth war imo.

Understandable, but overly simplistic.

If Iran blocks the shipping lanes all customers of those lanes would need to seek replacement from the rest of the world market.

We buy on the world market. Our prices would skyrocket and inflation would soar. Yes this would effect you and yours.
quote:

What would Iran do to the US if we just peaced out of that entire region? Would they really attack us? Why would they do that? Should we really be worried about Iran?

They would respond as they always do when we withdraw. They would respond by cultivating, arming, and financing terrorist allies in the world’s most strategic area as they did in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Israel, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and the Gaza Strip.

They would also be richer and therefore more valuable allies to the Axis of Evil: Russia, China, and North Korea.

quote:

I am just not so sure they are actually a big threat to us, even as their weapons capabilities continue to escalate.

Imagine this. They finally create an atomic bomb. It’s too big to put on their best plane or missile. So they load it into a shipping container with drums of drinking water, cases of food, a portable toilet, and two suicide bombers. The New York City waterfront crane lifts it off the ship, and the detonation kills hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Far fetched? Look what 4 airliners did on 9-11.
quote:

Iran does not want a war with us, and most of their people under 40 don't hate Americans.

These same people have been desiring the end of their government for just as long to no avail.
Iran is at war with us, they freely admit it, but they cannot and will not engage in a toe to toe stand up fight with us.

? How would Iran convert the US into an islamic country? This is a wild claim. I'm honestly trying to understand how people believe this.

Iran is a minority within the Muslim world. They are Shias.

Do the Sunnis that run Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan, Pakistan, Kuwait, UAE, etc not also have this programming? Aren't we cool with them?

Truly odd how little we interrogate our own programming.

Please tell me this is satire.

Eh. Tariffs have a more direct impact and yet I support.

Also, I'm not sold that we should go to war over the price of goods. That's a real slippery slope. It's not a blockade on us.

and? Not a direct threat to us. Let them fight it out.

They're in that axis because we've isolated them. They're one of the most sanctioned countries in the world. Peace with Iran could easily lead to a more liberalized Iranian populace and less animosity towards the US over time. Part of our deal with them could be that they must allow unrestricted internet and allow free travel, and not take foreigners as political prisoners. Their leadership would have less of an excuse to maintain the status quo, but more importantly, their population will demand to be more western as the older people die off. Iran is not a buncha cave dwellers and goat herders.

quote:

Imagine this. They finally create an atomic bomb.

Short of all out war, Iran will get a nuclear weapon in the next administration. Even after war they may still get one within 10 years, and then what?

How comfortable are you with Pakistan having nukes? Should we be concerned about Saudi Arabia pursuing nukes?

quote:

Far fetched? Look what 4 airliners did on 9-11.

Technically speaking, Israel having nukes is also a threat to us. Look at what they tried to do with the USS Liberty.

I can't help but wonder how much of the narratives we have been fed are just BS.

It's obvious you've never lived in a muslim country. But I'm sure you've read some books and Op Ed's.

Again, feel free to point out any untruths you find.

The appeal to authority angle has lost its effect. Should have learned that from the Douglas Murray "have you beeeen there?" interview.

Why doesn't Sunni-run Saudi Arabia feel this way? Pakistan?

Iran isn't going to attack us. What state would want that smoke? None. Besides, us screwing around in their region doesn't make them want to attack us, less. They will get nukes. They will. You realize this, right?
