I think the 2nd guard did an admirable job. He is young, probably new.
Stays calm, follows orders.
Chambers a round in his pistol.
Readies the rifle for the driver.
Is he scared? Yes. Does he freeze? No.
The difference between a coward and a hero, is which direction you go when the shite goes down. The coward is no more afraid than the hero.

What pisses me off about this video is that the robbers drove up on them and immediately starting shooting in the cabin. They were trying to kill them from the onset.
Complete lack of regard for human life.

Someone said that in the US guys try to rob you and only try to kill you if things go bad. In South Africa they kill you first and then steal your stuff.

You know you are in a shot hole country when something like that happens and you call your boss instead of the police.

I went down a few wormholes since seeing this story and came across this site about SA CIT heists. Insane how common this is there.
Link w/ caution as I have as much internet security awareness as "Mercenary #3" in the latest Alien movie ('oh, what's this oozing, pulsating egg-like pod that just opened like a flower? I think I'll stick my face in it to get a closer look.')

Strange that they didn't have a radio.
Makes zero sense with how munch they spent on the vehicle and the hardware used for the drivers.

That cab is too small to use that rifle. Need something like an Uzi.
Uzi? It's about the last thing you want.
Horrible firepower.
They just need a smaller stock on the AK or whatever rifle he's using

Couldn't tell you. I have seen some people mention that there are automatic distress signals from the CIT vehicles that alert HQ for sudden drastic changes in speed, direction and/or routes.

I mean, there's no fricking radio or nothing? No call for help? WTF

Says robbers fled. My arse they did. When the Equalizer rolled out of that van, he wasn't taking prisoners. He looked like a fat kid heading in the candy store. He smoked their asses. Rob and Josh are the "cleaners".
Mf'er is having fun and you can tell. At one point, as he's doing some driving, he's got a wry little smile and sticks he's tongue out. Just like Jordan about to dunk on someone's arse.
He was huntin' when he got out. Ex-cop my arse. That sumbitch is no cop. He's some special forces, commando, equalizing, Tae kwan jitsu master. Dude is ice. He was having fun! Meanwhile, Lamont was shitting his pants.

They need to have a third man on a turret

Not with that guy. He wakes up every day hoping for this shite.

Afrikaners are badass. Love how he got out the end with the rifle to hunt those pussies.

As I mentioned in the OP, bombs are apparently a regular feature of the SA CIT thieves:
All the more reason for them to invest in a few MRAPs. Put a mini-gun in the turret and watch the number of attacks drop to zero quickly.

Former SAPS (South African Police Service) Special Task Force member. They earn more as armed guards then as policeman.
early on as the initial rounds come in and his colleague has reached for his sidearm, the driver just quietly mutters "proper gun, proper gun" to him, to remind him to get his weapon priorities right...!!!

Apparently, these armored car heists are common in South Africa. Gangs of thieves armed with AKs coordinate multiple cars to swarm the CIT vehicles and frequently bomb the cargo compartments to get the cash
This explains why they aren’t cruising along talking about what they did the past weekend. You can see their heads are on a swivel.
At first I thought it was just awkward silence between the two.
They are literally hunted.
