re: Why doesn’t Vivek, Elon and Sachs just outsource code monkeys instead of H1Bs?

They don’t have more merit, they’re just cheaper foreign labor.

Wouldn't it be better to have them here paying taxes and contributing to our economy? Outsourcing doesn't protect American jobs either so that's a lose lose situation

Maybe. Maybe not. Devil’s in the details on this one, and to this point the liberal H1B visa bros seem to be short on detail.

I had Gumbo down for the JooAnonTard bracket. Which has evolved into the HinduAnonTard bracket in the last 72 hours.
Seems like only yesterday people were complaining about participation trophies and how lazy/retarded/entitled millennials and gen z were.
Now all of a sudden that is offensive

Hey here's a thought. If you want to be a good coder then don't be lazy as frick and become a good coder. If you are a hardworking good coder from America then you won't ever have to worry about your job being replaced.
the evidence points in the other direction, there's only been about 1000 posts on here the past couple days talking about this

this is only in regards to Musk and SpaceX but....
He cannot employ non-citizens at SpaceX due to the rocket program. Federal law due to rockets being a potential weapon.

This is why I don't hate private sector unions.
None of those super computers running Asian built code will do shite without baws turning wrenches down at the power plant.

It’s 2024. We have the internet.
In that regard, it is 2024.
We also have lived through the "Everyone gets a trophy" entitled mentality.
To be crystal clear, it wasn't GenY&Z handing out those trophies. Their parental generations own that. Nonetheless, the trophies were garnered regardless of achievement, which renders the skit below true enough of Millennials (and Zoomers to a lesser extent) to carry humor.

I will wait until Trump chimes in, if that is okay?

Journeyman trades, I agree. Anything else, and the union becomes a barrier to the worker.
Unions hate merit of any type.

I run a small software shop of about 30 employees. I have had direct to hire HB1 employees before. I hated it. For some reasons the Indians love the fact that they think they can hold you over a barrel on a project. I outsource mine now throw a 3rd party. If the worker sucks or can’t do the work they get replaced with no fus.
15 years ago we’re 100 American employed. The American market for developers in country just got to be ridiculous. Kids. Coming out of college with zero experience wanted 80-90K per year. In SELA that just wasn’t going to happen in many cases. They saw jobs in Cali, Dallas etc paying that much and thought they should get it here. Got tired of it and just went the outsource route,

I keep seeing this term. If it's grunt work that can be done for $20k, does it really require that much skill?

This was part of the deal to get their support
I suggest hard maga stops with the melt about some engineers
But maybe someone will answer this. How much more does American IT engineers get paid vs these .1% India MIT engineers?

I'm witnessing an interesting phenomenon. The anti-MAGA crowd, who always want to criticize anyone in Trump's orbit, are actually becoming more "America First" and turning MAGA. It's amazing.

Not bringing in foreign talent is suicide.

This has been a part of my point the whole time buts been done prior to COVID, and COVID made it even easier. No need to import them here other than to have them take over cities like in TX. TX seems to have become New New Delhi
