Why doesn’t Vivek, Elon and Sachs just outsource code monkeys instead of H1Bs?

It’s 2024. We have the internet. These code monkeys don’t have to live here.

We love the meritocracy until it’s time for the employee reviews

Hey here's a thought. If you want to be a good coder then don't be lazy as frick and become a good coder. If you are a hardworking good coder from America then you won't ever have to worry about your job being replaced.

IDK what employee reviews mean in this conversation but outsourcing is a real option. My wife started a financial tech business and the IT team had project managers that outsourced a lot of work to Indian firms.

Everyone loves the super smart tech bros who built great companies and are going to take businessmen efficiency to government.

Until they start telling hard truths about our domestic workforce and the underlying reasons for it.

If you don’t like H1B visas then change the fricking law.

Precisely why it’s in our interest to have H1B visas. Outsourcing costs us tax dollars and jobs. Better to allow companies to import skilled labor as needed under certain circumstances.

How is importing cheaper replacements addressing the underlying reasons Vivek is so concerned about?

The H1B's were also laid off

My point is, it’s very easy to avoid the H1B visa process by outsourcing especially for these tech firms that need coders.

You would rather lose the entire enterprise to the third world rather than bringing in 2 highly skilled foreign workers? Am I following you here?

Just fire them if it’s not working out. Complaining on the internet is not going to make these employees more skilled.

No. The core IT team resides here. Outsource as needed and even grow overseas divisions.

It’s my understanding that many of those companies have a general policy of laying off the bottom 10% every year.

You're going to get downvoted to oblivion. The low IQ brigade is too stupid to understand any of this.

They're not only bringing in coders.

Someone posted H1B requests for several finance firms and they were looking for HR people under the program.

Tell me we have a shortage of people qualified for a HR position.

You can't help yourself.

Do you support importing labor of any sort that serves to suppress American wages?

McKinsey claims there are no accountants available to work in the US. They need to hire an Indian because the US somehow didn't have a single kid get their accounting degree this past year. Amazing really.

They are probably looking for the HR candidate with the proper skin color.
