I cared about the prior Pope's political views. He was a communist. The new Pope is an improvement.

Also, I assume selecting the Pope is a holy process... do y'all not trust in the selection?
Anything done by man can be flawed because all men are imperfect.

But I do have a problem when the pope directly misstates the Bible by saying God never is on a side of someone raising weapons…
God evidently was against the Nazis. God was also against us in Vietnam.
God definitely does not allow these middle eastern wanna be dictators to succeed much.
Things are so fricking simple and easy to understand yet everyone tries to interpret what God is or does and mostly gets it wrong.

Why do people care about the Popes political views
Because his publicly quoted views give leftists cover to make it seem like a hard core leftist can be aligned enough with the Catholic teachings to allow rank and file Catholics to vote democrat.
It really boils down to decades of poor catechesis in the church. If people (Catholics) understood the teachings of Christ they would realize there is a hierarchy of morality and sitting atop that pile is the killing of the innocent and the millions of babies killed by abortion.

Because a thousand years ago, Popes used to run shite.
Posted on 4/14/26 at 6:04 am to CID 310
I’m Catholic and don’t give a shite what any “Pope” says or does, the church is on life support and “chose” an American in the hopes money would come pouring in. I cut all donations to the Catholic Church but give to my church and make sure it stays within my parish only.

Because OMB and anyone that says anything against Trump instantly becomes a hero to the American left.
The left like the current pope more than most Catholics.

are you catholic? i am i've lived through 7 popes now and the first 5 i couldn't tell you what their political views where. the most destructive pope in my life time was pope paul and it aint even close. the church i was baptized into in 1961 didn't resemble the church i was confirmed into in 1970.
that matters to me. if the last two popes want to beclown themselves weighing into american politics, have at it that puts them up there with pope fonzi and pope john paul, george and ringo. we lost 90,000 american nuns after vatican two and i had to suffer through guitar masses in the 70's never again.
there's your answer child now go and sin no more.

quote:They can see the teaching on ex cathedra statements in section 891 of the Catholic Catechism.
Every non-Catholic who thinks we Roman Catholics are bound by every word leaving the Pope’s mouth needs to Google “ex cathedra.”
(Many Catholics also need to look it up.)
They can also see in the next section that even when the Pope is not speaking infallibly, that his ordinary teachings on faith and morals must be adhered to with “religious assent”.
I really think Catholics need to consider their history. Popes in the medieval ages would depose kings and emperors and start holy wars and inquisitions with fallible declarations, and now Catholics consider him at best someone who might have something good to say at times, and at worst, a clown and even a blight on the church.
Those low views of the Pope are not historical. His office as successor of St. Peter demands respect and submission, especially as he speaks on faith and morals.

Only idiot protestants care, on their way to the liquor store, hoping the deacon doesn't see their vehicle in the parking lot.

Have a look at his bastardized the Catholic Church is. Tranny churches. Gay churches. Next thing we know they’ll be advocating post birth abortions.
The Tranny and Gay churches are nowhere to be found on the Catholic side of the aisle. You are thinking of the other guys.
You should check your facts.
But to get to the topic at hand, I don't know why people around here talk about the Pope so much. It's pretty much the most common topic here on Political Talk. Many people around here seem to love to take an opportunity to bash the Pope and to bash the Catholics, even if they have to tell a Lie to do so.

75% of the Cardinals at the Vatican are homosexuals. I don't concern myself with the opinion(s) of mentally ill people.

Because the Pope is not kissing the OPOS ring

David Axelrod met with Pope on April 9th, few days later he is criticizing Trump.
As a Catholic, I do not care about the Pope's political views.

You need to consider YOUR church's history and how even today there are only about 8,000 of your congregation practicing in the whole USA.
You never miss an opportunity to attack Catholics, their Pope and their Church around here.
Everybody around here knows your schtick by now - anti-Catholicism is why you are here.
