Why do Democrats always say they are independent?

I was watching a clip on YouTube of Valuetainment about Tucker’s interview with Sinclair. Adam on the show who always voted democrat and defends them keeps bringing up that he is a independent and Pat Bet-David called him out on that and I noticed a lot of democrats say the same thing when confronted about something on the left.

They believe they are free-thinking, so they believe they are above loyalty to a political tribe. The brainwashed do not understand they are brainwashed.

I make it a general point not to trust anyone who TELLS ME they are “independent.”

Many people call themselves Independents or Moderates, and by that they mean they don’t really follow politics and could not match policies to parties or candidates.
These types get their news and information from the main stream media and therefore vote Democrat.
These are people who will say Trump is bad.
But when pushed why he is bad will only say things like “He is racist, or a Fascist” but they can’t tell you anything racist he has done or policy he has.
The media doesn’t have much impact on the informed but it has great impact on the Ill-informed.
These types get their news and information from the main stream media and therefore vote Democrat.

Here are some other planks of the long con:
1. Teaching people to think that health insurance and health care are the same thing.
2. Teaching people that we live in a "democracy," clearly implying that what they mean by that is a pure democracy.
3. And as to the question posed, teaching people that Republicans are extremists. By claiming to be "independents" they are painting themselves as being objective and moderate, not members of any tribe. When objective and moderate people ALWAYS side with Democrats, the implications is that Republicans are radical extremists.
It's been quite effective for them so far. One day I found Reagan's 1980 platform online and it was almost identical to the Republican platform today. 43 years later. The Democratic Party, on the other hand, has lurched left immensely in just the last 15 years.
But its Republicans who have become "right wing extremists." Ask any "independent." They'll tell you.

If we're talking about a normal citizen, I agree with the poster above. Then it means that they don't know shite about politics or current events.
If we're talking about someone in the context of the OP, nah. That person knows exactly what he's doing calling himself that.

I’m talking about the ones who only watch cnn and msnbc, support and defend democrat policies and democrat politicians and gives them excuses when they mess up but never say anything good about the republicans.

Most folks I know who claim to IND are Libertarian, not Democrat or Republican.

The ones that really are independent get cancelled and removed from favor. See Tulsi. On paper she should be everything the democrats should want to put front and center. Yet we can’t have people thinking independently and critically.
