Because I vote for the more honest, fiscally conservative candidate.

In local elections, where we have some decent Republican candidates, I vote for them. Our city mayor is a good example.

However it's been a while since I voted in a national election where the Republican wasn't the bigger thief.

I’m independent and don’t feel loyalty to republicans.

Republicans helped steal the election in Arizona and GA.

And I’m over the two party system. I don’t even believe Trump is really a Republican or a Democrat. He just needed the backing from a party because our system is so shitty.

Lots of people do.

I vote GOP 95-98% of the time, but I consider myself "independent" in that I ALWAYS evaluate the individual candidates mano-a-mano. I have never pulled the "straight ticket" lever in my life.

Of course, in Texas we are not required to "declare" a party in order to vote in a primary. If we had that requirement, I would almost certainly register as a Republican in order to vote in the only important primaries in my area.

A: many people vote in a given election for the one closer (but not 100%) to their values.

im closer to Green but in the general its either dem or republican.

i stopped registering green so i could vote for bernie in a dem primary. i never bothered to re Green.

This is why I say "independents" are just leftists.

They default to the left in everything. A "socially liberal but fiscally conservative" voter will vote for the left 95% of the time.

Because it's part of the long-con. Here are some other planks of the long con:
1. Teaching people to think that health insurance and health care are the same thing.

2. Teaching people that we live in a "democracy," clearly implying that what they mean by that is a pure democracy.

3. And as to the question posed, teaching people that Republicans are extremists. By claiming to be "independents" they are painting themselves as being objective and moderate, not members of any tribe. When objective and moderate people ALWAYS side with Democrats, the implications is that Republicans are radical extremists.

You left off one very important one…a lie that our society has bought into, wholesale:

4. Disagreement = HATE
