Exactly this.

So tired of these arguments where people use selective truths to make a point that the fuller picture completely counters.

It’s like the people argue that an ambiguous line in the 3rd verse of the Star Spangled Banner means the whole thing should be tossed because it’s a screed for slavery.

It’s lazy, manipulative, and just so damn tiring dealing with people who think this way.

This map is wrong. I live on the UWS and there are NYPD cameras on Broadway, Amsterdam, and Columbus. They were approved by the city council and installed 2-3 years ago.

You bring up a good point. I had seen the deflock.org map before and took it for granted that the ALPR cameras in NYC are part of the same network. But when you posted the part I bolded, I looked it up, and you are correct that NYPD (and NYC Dept of Transportation / DOT) maintain their own network, and don't contract with Flock... They are still ALPR cameras, but the distinction of different networks is worth knowing.

A few other thoughts (not so much in reply to you, Ag Zwin)...

I ended up going back into the deflock.org map, entered an NYC zip code, and panned around the city map. Some observations:

1) Location:

The vast majority of ALPR cameras are clustered around toll road areas.

a) A very large number are clustered around the Lincoln Tunnel (connects NYC to NJ).
b) There are a smaller number around other high traffic bridge and tunnel areas.
c) There is a significant line of cameras on every avenue along 59th St and 14th St, which is consistent with the tax (road toll) for every vehicle entering midtown that was implemented a year or so ago.
d) 23rd St has a lot. I'd guess this is because there is a dedicated bus lane and NYC tickets drivers who drive in these bus lane (they have signs warning that cameras are watching for this)...
e) There are a few random cameras here and there that do not have an obvious toll related reason... some are likely to be red light cameras.
f) On page 2, I speculated (based on tiny view of zoomed out map) that Madison Avenue shops might be the reason for UES cameras, but I was wrong. There are 4 along Lexington Avenue and one on 3rd Ave, and I don't have any ideas as to why these locations.

2. Ownership:

I only clicked on a dozen or so cameras. Only 2 of them were owned / maintained by NYPD. Most of them are maintained by NYC DOT or the transit authority (MTA)... which makes sense with regards to the cameras enforcing tolls (and probably red lights) / generating revenue for the city.

3. I saw the other flock thread about ALPR use for ICE, in which someone posted the same map as the OP and insinuated Jewish population being the reason for lack of cameras on the UWS.

I can't definitively say that is not the reason. But having lived here for 25 years and having lived on both the UES and UWS, I disagree. The UWS was historically a little more of a working man Jewish neighborhood, and the UES was historically a little more rich WASPy (like the Rockefellers, JP Morgan, etc), but the UES is still more prestigious, and you will find more Jewish billionaire finance guys like Bloomberg who have penthouses and townhouses in the UES. My wife and I have two daughters who attended elite private schools with significant Jewish populations, and in rubbing elbows with the parent bodies, the UES (The Primates of Park Avenue set) seems to have more money and influence.

Summary:

Most of the cameras are for tolls / traffic violations / generating profit. There are other neighborhoods like the West Village and Greenwich Village which have 0 cameras, and several that have maybe one or two.

I love a good CT, and I'm fully in agreement with many on this board on many topics (there is extensive election cheating, MSM is propaganda, the Left is increasingly insane, etc). The lack of cameras on the UWS, however, appears incidental... it just hasn't been prioritized / deemed profitable yet.
