I realized it a few years ago.. it is *a* reason I left America to live overseas.. it's not *the* reason, or even the main reason.. but imo the current US leadership is incompetent and is running America into the ground at an alarmingly high rate of speed .. once the results came in in 2015, I knew it was over .

If the founders wanted a democracy they’d have said so.

Everyone loves to trash our form of government. It’s not perfect, but what system is? The US is the most successful form of government in World History. Capitalism as a system has done more to lift people out of poverty than any others,

As pointed out by many in this thread, the U.S. is a Republic and not a Democracy.

What is interesting is to follow the evolution of pushing the line that the U.S. is a Democracy. If you say it enough people will believe it.

Our Republic is FAILING, it hasn't failed.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury." - Tytler

We are far beyond that.

In 2025, the Federal Government spent $7 TRILLION dollars

$4.2 Trillion (60%) were spent on Social Security ($1.6 T), Medicare ($988 B), Medicaid ($668 B), Income Security Programs ($397 B), and $539 B OTHER Mandated spending.

For all you morons who scream about "Endless Wars", our ENTIRE defense budget including weapons, salaries, bases, etc. is only $893 B (21%). We spend more on interest servicing our debt than we do defense ($970 B)

This is why our Republic/Democracy/Whatever you want to call it - is failing...because Americans used their votes to get free stuff.

Love when some fig starts a thread then defensively responds, line by line, to everyone who responds.

They loathed classical democracy because it's basically two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for supper. The electoral college is the difference hence blue states signing up for national popular vote winner taking their electoral votes
