We will rule commerce it will be a bigger thing than OPEC at its height.

Tax them? They get billions in tax abatements and if they leave before the agreement...the taxpayers are on the hook. Council members who approve of these data centers also sign NDA's.
Wait until you learn how a majority of sports stadiums get built. Owner rarely pays more than 25% and taxes on residents pay for the rest.
In OKC we are building a $1b arena and owner paid $50m. But to be honest the Thunder arriving has created a boom growth for the city that honestly would not have happened. So one has to look at the net gain vs the cost. We could have denied the local tax (was voted on) and the team would have sold out to cheap owners and/or moved. It was a game changer for growth since they arrived.
I honestly don’t want too fast of growth but this was a tax break to owners of a business that is sports. And every city does it. Data Centers are no different, you give a tax break it will pay back more than 10 fold over time.
Still need to vet the DC like all businesses.

I'm fine with it, but I would prefer they pull electricity from the grid and not throw temporary generators at the fenceline.
You'll never see a data center without substantial generators installed. They have to be able to stay online if the power goes out. It's not like they're running them all the time.

The data center isn’t writing the code used to discriminate. You are arguing the wrong topic even though correct.

Meta is producing more taxes than the idle farmland it is built on in Richland Parish. Will use less water than a nearby papermill which was closed and demolished a few decades ago.

They are compute factories, some say the currency of the future. Opposing them is akin to opposing progress in general. Poor rural small towns opposing them is strange.

I don't mind the data centers themselves as long as I don't have to chip in to pay their power bill. So basically, I'm against them as currently proposed.
The "data centers are going to pay their share of electricity" talk is absolute bull shite. They'll pay for a massive chunk of it, but residential rate payers will be left with the rest.
It's only a matter of time before we see targeted ads basically saying, "Your electricity bill is 75% higher than last year. Here's why that's a good thing."
That's not to mention the massive increase in natural gas demand to power these places having severe impacts up and down the chain.

Wouldn't want to live beside one, but other than that theyre a necessary evil like many other things that support our infrastructure.

Need to study more. Expand your reading. Your messaging is too flawed.

They could be in the medical field.

I fully support them. They create high paying jobs and they are necessary for our growing need for data.

I agree, build them, tax them, invest in them. The last thing we want to do is get behind in AI.
Why is this "getting behind AI" slogan even a thing? It means absolutely nothing.
You can't get behind it—it's living software that will continue to iterate and receive updates and new versions for the rest of time.
As it relates to data centers, many already seem outdated, since the new strategy is likely more of an open-weight model. But if we must have them, it's ridiculous for taxpayers to fund these data centers while the private companies reap all the profits.

I'm not sold on the tax revenue employment bonanza since medium sized data centers maybe employ 50 people at any one time. The larger ones typically only add about 100. Now, during the building phase they produce 600 to 1500 construction related jobs that are by their nature long term temporary.
How many complimentary jobs are created by 100 full time permanent jobz?

They are the nos important investment going on right now. They are the key to eternal life and well being and the golden age of America

What a lot of people don’t understand about data centers is that we are building God in real time, here in the United State. People act like it is a Tower of Babel situation when in reality are tech geniuses are writing the Bible and transcribing it on our hearts

Don't care. They work well for me. All the pearl clutching is unfounded though but I don't really care either way.

Build them in industrial areas.
Make them fund their own power infrastructure
Make them use closed loop water cooling
Make them adhere to noise volume monitoring
Don't give away the farm in order to secure one from a taxation standpoint
Ascension Parish votes on the rules to control them tonight, and it appears the powers-that-be are already trying to loosen the restrictions the planning commission worked to get written. Such as proximity from residential being chopped and no longer property line to property line, but measuring building to building.

Data centers should be made to build their own power plants. Like Musk did in Mississippi.
Those small, nuclear powered generation systems that be transported by semi trucks should be available soon. Until then, they can build tbeir own power generation plants.
