Even if cops are trying to arrest you for no reason, there is no upside to running. Ever.
Doesn’t excuse them killing him, but both sides can prevent this.
It’s like if I take my white arse to New Orleans for a walk at 2 am and get shot. I have some blame there for being a dumbass even though I didn’t commit a crime.
At the end of the day you have to be smart enough to realize the “system”. Even if it’s rigged.

Breaking Point
Thinking young police officers need a break from the front lines on a regular basis. The emotional and psychological drain on these young people must be extraordinary.
No excuse, but working the streets nightly has a toll.

Impulsive reaction without checks, and mob mentality. None of them were able to critically live-evaluate a fluid situation. They were pissed he resisted and acted no different than the victim. It was a big "fk u, back and you can't do shiz about it."
Their training failed them, and their psych evaluation for passing tests to become an officer may be worth looking into as well.
My $0.02

No leadership, tribalism, corruption, lack of education.
This wasn’t the first time it happened, it was the first time it happened on video and they were caught. It’s not an accident police violence has come to light since departments around the country forced officers to start wearing body cameras. They were truly getting away with murder before. There was absolutely no reason to beat that man once he was handcuffed. None!

They were never supposed to grt caught.
They were the special division.
The leadership had their back.
The pole camera busted them and now their special division is being disbanded.
The cops are done for. They will all be killed in prison.
The leadership will destroy everything that was previously covered up.

"It appears premeditated to me. I think we will find out that one of these cops (you can tell which one) had a history with the victim."
.. I am so tired of this conspiracy theory that this guy was assassinated, or that this was planned. If so, why not just kill this guy during your off time, when you are, say NOT WEARING A CAMERA TO CAPTURE THE MURDER?

quote:Agree. It’s seems very unlikely five guys woke up and said “I’m going to beat the hell out of the first guy I stop today”. But I have to wonder if it wasn’t premeditated in some way. Looks personal, almost.
I almost started a thread saying there is more to the story instead of this one. Has to be more.

All 5 of them being pieces of shite would be the first obvious answer.

Apparently they weren't concerned about their body cameras.
Which points to issues beyond just these 5 guys in that department.

People tend to react and treat people a certain way through experience.
Having been there a few years ago I can say for a fact that Memphis is a shithole. Lots of crime.

He fought back and ran.
Those guys usually end up killing cops too.

Sure seemed personal. Yanked him out of the car and never gave him a chance to comply. Makes me wonder if they weren’t hunting him.

100%. However, how do you explain a kick to the head when he's handcuffed and on his knees, no longer a threat to harm an officer of the law? That's the precise moment in my mind where this shifts to 2nd degree murder, and a slam dunk for the DA because at that point they shite on the powers afforded under the law and became murderers with street fighting, executioner sloppy tactics.
Eta: And the kick wasn't a heat of battle exchange, it was like setting up for a field goal with a stationary target teed up.

He disrespected them. This same thing happens amongst civilians everyday in Memphis, and Atlanta, and New Orleans, and Baton Rouge.
I mean I don’t think this is some crazy case. The dude ran from the cops, the beat him up, he died.
I don’t think these officers woke up saying we are going to kill this guy today.
It was a heat of the moment thing.

Having to fight criminals 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Being called uncle Tom's. By their own kind.
Being called pigs by white liberals they are protecting.
Seeing black kids gunned down regularly in the streets.
Having arm chair qb's sit behind a keyboard and say: "Well they knew the risks when they took the job."
Cops have two great risks at the job... Getting shot and killed and leaving your family behind, or going to jail for life and leaving your family behind...
Surprised we even have any cops in the USA.

Resisting Arrest.

Up to a certain point yes, but how do you explain sideswapping haymakers thrown from South America on a handcuffed individual?
People need to learn that actions have consequences. Resist arrest and all outcomes are bad.
Cooperate and outcomes will be generally less bad.
It doesnt really matter that others also chose bad actions that resulted in bad outcomes, It only matters what you did to lead to those bad outcomes.

That's what I get from the video too but that could be us subconsciously trying to find logic where there is none.
