Did he try to mess with one of the officer's baby mommas ?
Baby momma or GF. One of the cops texted a pic of him to her, severely beaten and propped up against the cop car

I am leaning towards
1. One of the cops had a score to settle with the victim
2. He got his crew to agree to help give him a tune -up. Planned to keep yelling commands while physically making it impossible to comply with commands to allow for a thorough tune-up. Evidenced by pulling his extremities in opposing directions. Enabled them to use resisting excuse to validate the deluxe tune-up.
3. Adrenaline level spiked and the tune-up was upgraded to ultra deluxe once he was cuffed. The guy administering the haymakers might not even be the initially bereaved party. Could be he was just consumed by the rage moment and got to raging.
Not even sure I think the guy who originally rushed the car was the bereaved party. Maybe just a loose cannon ginned up to get the party started.
I have a feeling that the victim soon realized the situation he was in and new they were intent on beating his arse one way or another and his instinct kicked in for self-preservation.
Just a theory with no evidence yet but I will be surprised if some or all of it doesn’t come to light.

The police officers were also members of a gang. They were carrying out a coordinate hit on behalf of said gang.

This one more looks like pure animosity.
Dig a little deeper, it’s not very difficult to find this reeks from the top down.
I don’t have a scorpion in the fight nor did I really give a rat’s arse, until I heard the usual Democrat/MSM lies being slung.

A crew of black cops beat a black man to death under the command & watch of a Democrat, black, and female Chief of Police…and still blame whitey
There’s a plethora of good local(Memphis) investigative reporting and news reports on the SCORPION unit of the MPD, once again rotten from the top down,
quote:
WREG was the first to tell you about Cornell McKinney, a Hickory Hill man who says he was stopped and snatched from a car by the same officers, just days before Nichols’ encounter. Man recalls physical encounter with SCORPION police unit before Nichols death McKinney says he could get no response to his complaints to Police Internal Affairs over how he was stopped without reason. But his case is now going national, and may help launch a deeper investigation. “All I heard is, ‘Freeze get out the car. Put your … hands up before I blow your head off,'” McKinney said. “So I put my hands up and one of the officers proceeded to come to the car, and he physically pulled me out by my shoulder with a gun no more than a foot away from my head.”
quote:
It could have been prevented if Internal Affairs took action like I was asking them to do,” McKinney said.
