Whatever money they spent on tariffs, they already priced it into their products and sold them. Why the F would we refund them....unless they refund every customer who purchased from them

So are we admitting here that the tariffs did cause prices to rise on American consumers?

It was illegally taken. Why would you not want to give refunds? Would you rather the government have that money versus American businesses

Yes, I would rather Trump distribute, than give it to companies that have ALREADY RECLAIMED IT THRU RAISING THEIR PRICES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS.

So yeah, why would they ask for something they passed on and collected already. If they do, their customers are entitled to refunds.

The net net is a ton of work, and should result in net zero gain for them.

So, lets take a fake example....best buy. They sell you a device which was raised 6% higher when tariffs hit. Across the country, they sell 50,000 of different products with raised tariffs. Sure , they can probably calculate what the tariffs cumulative total is. But they passed it on to consumers already. Well, they've either gotta refund every customer that amount, or face years of class action lawsuits from consumers, adding their names to suits, and fighting in court. All to end up with what should be, a net zero gain.....but 10s if millions in legal fees and brand name damage.

So yeah. As a ceo I'd probably just move on, tariffs are still there under new ruling, so prices will remain steady anyway

So yes, we are admitting that tariffs raised prices on American consumers. Good to get that established.

I'm actually good with the tariffs. You're merely ASSuming something from my statement, and we all know how those situations typically turn out.

I personally support tariffing countries that tariff us. I never understood why we just bent over and took it.

But that said...it seemed the overwhelming consensus from Trumpists was that the media was lying that American consumers would pay more because of tariffs. Now we have Kennedy and others talking about a refund. What is there to refund if prices didn't rise?

Tariffs were largely absorbed by the exporters. These “refund” claims aren’t going to amount to much. Studies confirmed this.

Yes, a refund. If something is taken from you illegally, I’m sure you would want it back.

How was it illegal. It was called a tariff in order to give the US leverage. The country fell for it. The US got the leverage and the revenue. Now, because they fought it, the real tariffs kick in.

How many times have you paid a "fee" to your local government for something? That "fee" is certainly a tax, don't ya think?

If putting that money back into circulation causes the economy to boom, then taking it out in the first place had to have caused a drag.

It's not that binary. Many exporters lowered their price to eat some of the tariff. That's why there wasn't massive inflation.

Let's say a product is usually sold from China for $100 and a 20% tariff is added. China lowers the price to $90 making the net after tariff $108 instead of $120. Retailer decides to increase the price $4 and eat the other $4. If you refund the $18, do you think any of that is going back to China?

The Supreme Court ruled that the President didn’t have the authority to impose tariffs based on IEEPA. So tariffs that were collected using this method should be paid back. Why should they not be?

Not true. Some have. Many haven’t. And many can’t. Many businesses are absorbing a big chunk.

If you want the government to keep the money it collected without proper authority, ok. Your opinion. I just would rather it be given back to the companies that paid it.

Tariffs are working - and nothing is going to change because of this ruling. Bessett said this morning the tariffs are going to remain in place and just moved over to a different statue that allows it.

Noted. But should tariffs that were obtained without authority from the government be given back to the companies that paid it?

At least not anytime soon. It's going to be a long legal boondoggle

Yeah there will obviously be no refunds. I doubt the question ever even makes it to SCOTUS.
