You are a perfect example of why the 19th Amendment was the biggest mistake in this country's history.

Oh sweet irony. From the loon that claims millions were enslaved at the founding.

They set the blu print for the most free and prosperous nation in the history of man. Think about it!
We just witnessed millions of illegals risking it all to come to the USA.

In regards to slavery. You had a Man interpreting the Constitution. Show me a perfect man.

No comment about the 4Cubbies bullshite here as it's been addressed by others. However, this reeks of the same negativity pervading Leftists unable to give Trump credit for promoting peace. The number of comments by Leftists in the WSJ so pissed off that peace might be happening in the Middle East is sad. These are the same people happy the Charlie Kirk was assassinated.

An earlier draft strongly opposed the slavery issue. That part was cut in order to get all 13 colonies on board.

At the time, unity was necessary in order to Declare our Independence.

The other side of that coin is the founding fathers/colonies that felt strongly could have dug their heels in... and without unity, we'd STILL BE frickING COLONIES.

Lucky for all of us we are able to do that with no problems. In world history doing that would probably get you in a lot of trouble.

You aren't doing a good enough job of that. My belief is that you aren't reading it through the eyes of someone who saw slavery as having been an ever-present part of life for all known history, but as someone who abhors it.

I suppose its possible I'm giving my ancestors too much credit. I truly cannot fathom how a reasonable person can see a person who is nearly anatomically identical to them and actually believe that other person is not a human.

quote:

Many of the Founding Fathers were abolitionists, but not enough to form a union which abolished slavery at the onset. Without this compromise, the United States may well not have formed (and forming the union was the primary goal). This is also one of the reasons for a path for amending the Constitution.

Fair point, but why even posture with the "all men are created equal" and "to establish justice" bs?

I know you lack intelligence so let me explain it to you: your support for abortion is in direct contrast to your fake moral outrage over slavery

Repeating this popular NPC mantra that tickles your lizard brain?

Feels good doesn't it?

The good news is that 80% of the population thinks this way too. SO you in good company.

Luckily, I believe the citizens of the United States will one day elect a male president who will correct the course those evil women leaders have set our country down. It may even happen in my lifetime!

We don’t live under the declaration. 8-9 states had either banned or were phasing out slavery at the time of the constitutional convention which is what matters to this discussion.

Is your problem with slavery as a global institution or specifically slavery in the US?

The discussion is about our founding documents, but I see your point.

You say you are trying to view through the lens of that period. First of all that’s nearly impossible as personal biases won’t allow. Then you also need to realize that they were trying to put forth a nation of different think, just as people in todays world would have to do. People in Boston had different lives than those in S Carolina and reflected in the outcome, 3/5ths wasn’t about a lesser man but representation of one’s state. You could instead maybe wonder why todays black community lives a more destructive lifestyle than 1960, it would at least have a more understandable view

You edited from this:

to this:

has never applied to those systematically excluded from full citizenship

In a nation of 350 million with substantial minorities from Central and South America, Africa, Middle East, and Asia -- who is systematically excluded from full citizenship?
