If you haven't seen the movie 1776, you should. I always thought it was some silly musical, untilI sat down one day and watched it. It was a great movie. Very factual and the scene where South Carolina votes no on the Declaration because of slavery explained a lot. The South Carolina Delegate made a strong enough case, and Jefferson recognized it, that Adam's had to back off on the slavery abolishment originally in the declaration draft.
Highly suggest you watch it.

I appreciate your thoughtful response.
Slavery was legal in all 13 colonies when the Declaration of Independence was written and signed.
Seems like the implication is that the government should also treat men equally, though.

The majority of states had already outlawed slavery and polling suggests the majority of all people saw the evils of slavery but this new government relied on a basic framework to hold the states together as one nation.

Do you believe your own bullshite? There weren’t “millions” enslaved at the time of our founding. There was likely less than 3 million total people in the colonies at the time.
Slavery was an issue even the slave holding founders struggled with and it is precisely the document you’re trying to denigrate that eventually led to the freeing of the slaves.

i see you're trying really hard to sound intelligent today.... if you look at the true history of slavery you'll find out that the first american slave owner was an african man, Anthony Johnson. he himself was an indentured servant which was legal practice in those times. he then found a way to legally force indentured servants into becoming forever slaves which made him the first slave owner and set the stepping stones for what african americans endured and what todays black community want reparations for.
ETA:
my point being, the founders didnt creat or codify the existing system of slavery. they worked within it. and the system that they created lead to the end of slavery. Thanks founding fathers.

They were all flawed men yet at the same time they were extremely brave, resourceful and collectively they were brilliant. The Founding Fathers crafted the most inclusive and equitable legal documents in the history of the world to bring a nation into existence and more specifically, Western civilization.
My suggestion to any person who is still finding grievance and fault with the Founding Fathers is to take up residence in another country that they believe better represents their worldview and see how it goes.

This is a lie, doubtful it’s your first today.

The revolutionary claim that “all men are created equal” coexisted with the enslavement of millions,
Example #1 of your lie. The very definition of “man” in that time was about whether you lived a Godly life in His image, whether you owned property, whether you provided for and protected your family, shite like that. While it is understandable that you don’t get the concept, it is unconscionable to promote juvenile arguments pretending ignorance of that concept.
I can continue here, but you won’t listen, so I’m not going to waste our time.

The constitution explicitly talks about states rights but not slavery for a reason
This. The southern states would not have joined the Union had slavery been abolished in the founding documents.
Right, wrong, indifferent that’s the truth. They did the math and did not use sociology. Math always wins.

Pure ignorance. A lie probably.
In 1776 there were somewhere between 350k and 500k slaves in the colonies.
Why do you spread bullshite?

It did exist. Legally.
And it was outlawed. Through a war. Legally.
These are issues that were dealt with through pragmatic means.
Pragmatism vs deception.
Alot of politics the last few decades has been deceptive.
Trump is being pragmatic.
Therin lies the difference with Trump.
Alot of what is being done i necessary for our countries survival, and is pragmatic. So, getting stuff done.
Now he needs to build that Arch.

It’s like he forgot all US history but the bad. He should know of the battle over slavery in our early history. How mostly southern states refused to accept anything that outlawed slave owning or they wouldn’t sign. No USA and world history changes completely. He should read Adams disgust and worry over the reckoning that he and others knew were coming.
