I survived the Livingston derailment of 82 with some of the same chemicals.

Is this expected to be worse than that?

This has the potential to be worse than the Livingston derailment. Much more territory is being affected. There were no deaths back in 82, so there's some hope. I pray there are no deaths from this incident. I'm certain there will be a lot of people that will undergo many years of health monitoring.

Well dude, I don't understand your mutterings, but yes the vast majority of emergency responder are serious, committed, smart individuals. But blowing a hole in a tank of VC is woefully dumb.

Were you a part of the class action lawsuit against Illinois Central Gulf? My family know someone who was a plaintiff in that case. His settlement check was around $11,000.

What’s your alternative to a “controlled” burn off in this situation?

I’m just happy the environmental groups are all over this, up in arms and getting the word out there about this environmental atrocity… oh, wait. They’re not? Weird. Wonder why? Oh yeah. This is (D)ifferent.

I grew up in St Charles Parish with chemical plants everywhere. In elementary school, occasionally we'd all start rubbing our eyes at recess because they were burning and teachers would run us all inside. Call me cavalier, but I'm not all that worried about chemicals coming down from Ohio.

I’ve been a Hahnville resident for 20 years now, so I understand this.

As if you needed to give the Belle River Mafia a reason.

Honestly, we should be focused on this more....it is very dangerous for a lot of people from W Va probably as far down as Cincinnati and Louisville

Basically the contamination is coming right to the Mississippi River

Maybe now people will understand why they burned this shite. If it was left to explode and leak into the community it would be a clean up of immense proportions and many more vectors of contamination.

The Mississippi River flow is about 750,000 ft3/sec...

The solution to pollution is dilution.

No doubt he will have an army of flamboyant transvestites armed with tampons standing in the way of such a disaster
