It’s also why we have had so much immigration, to prop up this house of cards you have to maintain gdp growth. To do that you need population growth and birth rates were plummeting thus immigration doors were opened
LOL, this is propping up nothing. It’s just creating more parasites. If you care anything about getting deficit spending under control, the first thing you would do is rid the country of the 30 million + illegals squatting here.

AI is the last attempt to keep us from collapsing or keep us under surveillance during the collapse. That is why they're pouring everything into it.

It really does. I feel like anyone who really thinks our fiscal situation can be recovered is naive.
We are really putting MMT to the test.

Besides diluting the money supply, you know what else is the sign of a dying empire?
1 Fighting dumber and dumber wars that have 0 material benefit to the homeland. Ex. Britain's last great empirical victory was against Argentina over the Falkland Islands
2 Also a turn towards degeneracy
3 Political leaders that are more a product of the system than beloved by the people for their abilities

I could have sworn I heard Trump say he’d wipe our debt.
Posted on 8/17/26 at 8:26 pm to CastleBravo
Have you seen how much Trump has spent?

The illusion of fiscal normalcy
Fiscal normalcy refers to a period where government budgets experience stable revenues and expenditures patterns, avoiding extreme fluctuations. This concept has gained attention as states and governments adapt to changing economic conditions, particularly after the volatility caused by events like the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yep, our pal Anthony Fauci and his ChiCom pals in that Wuhan lab either, 1) knew what they were doing when they created this deadly Covid-19 virus and deliberately caused that virus to be released, or 2) the lab did not follow protocol and the virus was accidently released.
In both cases the result is the same - the Pandemic killed millions and destroyed President Trump's economy and resulted in the election of exactly the wrong party and President America needed at this exact time. Since Joe Biden presided over a feeding frenzy of excessive spending, printing money out of thin air resulting in explosive Bidenflation. (hint: did I mention devaluation of our currency?) Which created this massive debt which now stands at $ 40 trillion. Yep, feeding frenzy is the right term to describe what the crook Joe Biden and his pals pulled off
So welcome to the economics of illusion.
You sly fox you Anthony Fauci.
Wait it gets worse - we're about to hand control of the House of Representatives (from which appropriations orginate) back to the crooked Democrats who created this mess in the first place.

I think maybe the better thing is to stop getting conned by defense contractors.
Our interest payments on debt are more than our military budget (which itself is 10% of our budget). Why not stop being conned by Medicare, Medicaid, social security, wic, sec 8, foodstamps, etc that consist of 65+% of the budget

Yes and no, yes there are leaches, but there's no doubt, their cheap labor helps prop all this up.

If we can print currency without negative consequences, why wouldn’t we?
Posted on 8/17/26 at 8:56 pm to SlidellCajun
Sadly, the vast majority of voters will vote for the same Rs and Ds that are doing this to us. I don’t care what third party you vote for, but it’s time to change.

I don’t fully grasp the rationale of the federal reserve except to create a “bank” that can lend us money. It’s like if you had your own bank that loaned you as much money as you wanted. What if you just didn’t pay it back?
Then Consider that the Fed reserve is the largest holder of our Gov treasuries (debt) and then play out a scenario that we don’t pay it back…. Hmmm

It would instantly erode “full faith back by US Govt”
Instant us debt and $USD nuke. Rates skyrocket to unbelievable levels. The end of the American Empire

Have no fear, if the Democrats take either majority in Congress the Republicans will no doubt return to being deficit hawks.

I think the MMT people are right - debt doesn't matter when the entity in debt is the same entity that creates the money. Debt matters to me and you because we don't print money, but the government is not an individual.
Conventional economic theory predicts that a high debt to GDP ratio causes collapse. Well, they were wrong about Japan who has had over a 200% debt to GDP ratio for 30 years. (Ours is 120%). How did Japan do it? They never had a ton of inflation (and even deflation at times). MMT theorists cite this as a win for their ideas. (MMT states that as long as inflation is low, the debt doesn't matter at all).
Britain is another example. They ran enormous debts for centuries. By the time of the American Revolution they had a 156% debt to GDP ratio (it's one reason they wanted to tax the colonists here). Then they went and fought Napoleon and grew their debt much more at a ratio of 200% debt to GDP (and a total debt of about $1 billion). If you convert that to 2026 dollars using the modern American GDP, that means Britain's debt in 1815 was equivalent to the U.S. owing $65 trillion today.
Despite this, Britain was still the world power up until about WWI.They collapsed after WWII, but debt wasn't the main reason. (Ironically, the U.S. held most of Britain's debt at the time). Two world wars, losing a ton of young people, the USA rising, Germany and Japan competing in industry all created a perfect storm.
On the other hand, Britain was really good about getting that debt to GDP ratio DOWN during peacetime (down - to like 20%). The interesting thing about the U.S. is we are the opposite - ours has grown more during peacetime than it ever has during any war. Why? Because our politicians in the past 40 years have borrowed to finance wars instead of raising taxes. In fact, they borrow and then decrease taxes at the same time.
