Maybe I'm wrong, but that's a long damn distance. That's so far, that by the time the round actually got there, the person might take a few steps.
We already have sniper rifles that when setting up the shot you also have to take into account the rotation of the earth...

Is that Delores’ gun from Westworld?

Yeah, that's a continual factor though, and can be calculated and worked in. What a person might do, in the next 2.5 seconds though, is not.

I’ve been looking for a new deer rifle.

Sweet. Does all of the wind stop blowing when you fire it? If not, you ain't hittin' shite from 7km out.

Only answer I've got is you snipe a location, not the person. So you set up observation for a day or 3 with a forward unit/ drone/ satellite and identify a pattern. The target sits at a desk, or on the crapper, takes a piss etc and that's the shot. You're not hitting someone just out for a stroll at 1 km, let alone 7.

I've never fired a .400 grain round, but I'm not sure if anything short of a hurricane would bother it.

7km-range
Can you imagine taking a shot and watching it hit ~8secs later? Wow.

Seems like propaganda.
My gun is bigger than your gun.
What is the real world utility of such a weapon and what is the percentage of actually killing the target.
We have reapers for this sort of thing

Maybe to mount on an automated system.

Funny thing about rifles ...the bullets go straight and not around corners or over trees, bushes ....
they can go over obstacles, though.

Russia needs this kinda thing to build national pride.

will be the only weapon allowing operatives to destroy an enemy beyond the horizon line of a standing shooter.
That's great and all, but you need an accurate and reliable scope to see that far.

Seems to me, the only way it would be useful at that distance, is with a person forward, or a drone who can actually identify the target, and train an infa-red beam on him, and an electronic aiming set-up on the rifle. The sniper would just be a trigger puller, really, you wouldn't even need him. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's a long damn distance. That's so far, that by the time the round actually got there, the person might take a few steps. Now a good thing about that electronic aiming set-up, the guy who is forward painting the target, wouldn't be giving himself away by taking the shot. He might go undetected.
I would think mortars, at this point, would be more effective.

Exactly and with that long of a flight time, it would have to be a stationary target.

St. Louis lawyer could use it for his yard, should stop the violence

Plus, Russia is always announcing that they've created some new superweapon. It goes back to their USSR propaganda days.

That's a good point, a round like that, you are basically lobbing it in like a mortar anyhow.
