Regardless of if this is true or not, what IS true is our own money was being redirected by govt to create dissent amongst the population.

Was Charlie Daniels a rapper? He rapped all the time. His greatest hit is a rap

I remember that, there was a big controversy over the song because they took out part of the chorus...

The devil went down to Georgia to kill that n@@@, to rape that b####, to f@@@ his momma and her dog.

Not long after those lyrics became mainstream rap

Grunge was terrible for the American economy. Kids got existential and less consumeristic.

ETA. I don’t mean that it was a bad thing. It just reinforced the idea that boy bands and girl pop were needed to inject the uptick for more positive spending circa mid 90s

Lizzo isn’t a rapper and there are several rap songs in the top 40. This is retarded

The point wasn't that Lizzo was a rapper. It was that her success and sales was propped up artificially. Is there really a huge market for a fat bitch with a flute and a bad attitude?

Also think about the attacks that the popular rock bands of that post grunge era got. All the sudden bands like Creed and Nickleback went from headlining tours and having top selling CDs to being national punchlines.

The Nickelback hate always seemed like some early internet psyop to me. They're a good band, literally the last rock band to have a number one hit on Billboard charts.

Grunge fricking suxed arse, it was depressing music, my daddy hit me, or some other crap, my parents were mean, I was bullied or you name it, to whine about.. Give me the young van halen type stuff anyday, Jamie Cry'in or ain't talk'n about love, Running with Devil, or AC/DC they are not talking about being a victim, ever. All grunge talked about was being a victim of something. Rap sucks but at least they had hot chics in music videos something grunge never had, No cherry pie type hot chic running around.. No, Grunge bands thought it demeaned women and was above them how insane can you get... Rock Music, IMO, just decided it didn't want to sing aoubt rasing hell and having fun, and looking at hot chic's...

I liked hip-hop better than Rock as did most people my age. I never got the Rap is evil by Rock fans while ignoring the genre's own flaws. I doubt USAID was behind the hip-hop's success, Rock as Jazz before it had its time and something new and fresh came along.

This is the eighth week in a row that it’s the first week in a long time that there isn’t a rap song in the top 40

well the title of the thread says USAId was making rap popular and this was the example provided. It’s a retarded example to prove an extremely questionable premise. And in woke 1.0 circa 2016, there was a place for weird fat black bitch music

Rap has run its course, like rock did. No one has replaced the drakes and Kanyes and they’re 40/50 at this point.

The time in the 80’s and 90’s was peak music IMO. Arena rock, hair metal, grunge, early hip hop and the college alternative scene …. and even MTV pop stars ….was a period that I don’t know can ever be reproduced with the money made with over produced and manufactured shite we have today.

I remember in Atlanta when Power 99 flipped from pop to 99X and started playing more alternative and “underground” music. Back then you had no exposure to this music unless you had a friend or buddy clue you in. No streaming and a lot of those bands were in isolated pockets.

It was a great time to be a teenager.

She is categorized as a rapper. A singer, too. She's just not in the same vein as Jay-Z, Kanye, Nicki Minaj, etc.

I don't believe that rock faded from the mainstream naturally. I don't know rap well enough to know who is popular. Kendrick Lamar? I thought his Super Bowl show sucked. Travis Scott? I know him, Future and Playboy Carti a little bit, but only because of songs with The Weeknd (not a rapper).
