I was a young child in 1976, but I remember as a cub scout marching in the 200 year parade in my hometown.
A time of overall immense patriotism after the difficulties of Vietnam and Watergate. The majority of people were proud of their country, even though we were about to get hit with a terrible president.

Now, a slight majority of citizens openly hate this country and vote daily for it's downfall. Patriotism has been replaced by pride celebrations, illegals being allowed to vote, members of congress citing daily their contempt for the American people and their goal to destroy the American way of life that our founding fathers fought and died for.

I wonder if 300 will actually happen. I'm really sad what has become of this country. The next democrat congress or president will take us completely under.

Yep, everyone celebrated...

I remember the wagon train that went across the country to celebrate, each wagon represented a state. Some were in a few MG parades in Jefferson Parish that year...

300? Not likely in our current set-up.. The country is as divided as possible and that will only grow. Not likely a civil war, just a breakaway where states govern themselves much more and the federal government handles very little. ... Maybe that is just my dream.

Fun fact about that image. It was taken in Pittsburgh on the 6th street bridge (now the Roberto Clemente bridge) and the upper left portion of that photo is where PNC Park sits today.

I don’t think this is true.

Agreed.

Remember the Bicentennial year well and in spite of the country not being far removed from the turbulent 1960s, Vietnam, Watergate, etc., it seemed the entire country was happy and proud to celebrate 200 years. It was fun.

A lot different than what it seems today and very fair to wonder if this republic will make it to 300.

That was the year I graduated from high school. Everyone made a big deal out of the bicentennial back then.

The country is dying. We will break apart and fight like tribes. There is nothing that connects us anymore.

Yep, just a random collection of people sharing the same space. Now SCOTUS just ruled that the entire world is owed citizenship if they want it.

I was a little younger than 10 in '76. Remember a lot of celebrating and no USA hating on TV.

America continues to mature. It’s all part of a country’s self realization. It doesn’t happen overnight.

You may have fond memories of 1976, but a lot of Americans don’t.

Vietnam vets were denied proper medical care. Jim Crow was still much very alive in some parts of the South. Real wages were lower than they are today.

Not in this current version of America. Some emancipated and divided version of the US might make it under the proper circumstances, but the glory days of the "50 United States" are gone.

80s and 90s was peak America during my lifetime (I'm just a little younger than you). The beginning of our downward spiral began with the advent of the Internet and social media. We can't put that djinn back in the flask.

There's no doubt they're going to try like never before. Maybe they'll actually go as far as to genuinely create a Constitutional crisis, and we can finally get on with the inevitable conflict in one way or another.

It is sad to see so many brainwashed by Fox News, etc. A "slight majority" do not openly hate the country or root for its downfall. You are conflating dislike of the Administration with dislike of the country. I would encourage you to turn the talking heads off and read a book.

It’s not a majority that hate the U.S.

It’s 10-20% that have a big voice and they use the remainder of Democrat voters (mostly poor minorities) to accomplish their agenda by promising more free shite and promoting hate whitey
