That was the year I graduated from high school. Everyone made a big deal out of the bicentennial back then.

It wasn't such a good year. Disco had replaced classic rock.

This is admittedly an anecdotal observation but here's my two cents.

I was 17 when the US celebrated the Bicentennial. The level of symbolistic patriotism in St Joseph MO where I was born and raised was pretty visible throughout the city of nearly 80,000 people. The city hung banners and flags on many of the city streets and parkways and there was a Bicentennial parade....it was a pretty big deal.

I no longer live in St Joseph MO, moved into the KC metro +35 years ago and I currently live in a subdivision in rural Platte County MO. There are maybe 175-200 homes in the neighborhood and so far I would say less than 30% have any type of patriotic symbolism displayed on their property to commemorate the 250th birthday of the US.

My opinion thus far is the majority of Americans are not that impressed with the US surviving for 250 years. Myself, I have two US flags mounted on the posts on our front porch and I have a big 250th US birthday flag hanging off of the party deck in the backyard for my Woke neighbors to deal with.

I would add that 9/11 and the endless wars in the middle east, the Patriot Act etc. have contributed.

I saw this a couple of days ago, it was a huge deal at Disney in 1976. I'm guessing this year it won't be quite the same.

In 1976 the country was between 80-85 percent white. In 2026 that number has dropped to 57 percent. Take that how you may.

Correct. While there may have been more pockets of actual white racists, there was not any real "Jim Crow" to speak of.

I have to agree with this. The '76 bicentennial was awesome. That was before (most) democrats started hating their country.

I really believe a war is coming to our country. When we have a new radical movement of people wanting to take away your freedom, guns, money, property and jobs. Baby boomers, This could be the beginning of the end for our country. I totally blame this on Obama. POS. We have got to get Vance or Rubio in the White House and natural born citizens elected for congress.
