Why are you only referencing BBB and not the trillions spent by Trump in 2020? They all causes inflation.
Are you comparing general policy to the response to a black swan event?

I believe that 4% inflation number doesn’t include food and fuel.
ETA: I should have scrolled down a little before posting.

This whole thread is about the response to a black swan event
People are trying to make it partisan when it's pretty clearly not.

Dude, our dollars are worth about 75% of what they were worth in January 2021. Let that sink in.

Which side of the political isle supported/pushed the shutdowns the most?

It was a bipartisan effort. Did you miss all the stuff Trump's admin like Fauci and the CDC were proposing/mandating?

Are you a writer for CNN?

I don't recall Trump trying to force states to shut down.
I do recall Biden trying to get the unvaxed fired.

Economy is strong as hell, Jack!!!
Where's my ice cream?

But it's pure bullshite for all the countries listed. Whatever increase in prices for the "volatile items" y'all think will make us look worse will likely be worse in the countries listed, too.
I’m not sure anyone is arguing that we aren’t in less bad financial than many European countries, just that the absolute values of inflation are being purposefully depressed to make the current political class look better.

This is like saying it’s a good thing that when you and 5 other guys jump off a bridge, that you’re the last to hit the ground.

I'm assuming 4% is the rate over a year, but still not correct. Taking one product, Speed Queen washer is up 30% in the last few years. It's all unicorn facts and rainbows, build back better is working from the middle out and bottom up.
4% today doesn't mean it's only gone up 4% overall. Simplified, with made up numbers, it looks like this:
$10 in May 2020 (starting price)
&10.50 in May 2021 (5.0% YoY)
$11.45 in May 2022 (9.0% YoY)
$12.02 in May 2023 (5.0% YoY)
So, the item is up 20.2% from the start of Covid/Money printing. The formula is more complex than the above, but that's an elementary example of how it works.

What a meaningless single data point of inflation not tailored towards the end consumer over a more ridiculous short timeframe that gives a false since of stability.

Thanks Karine Jean-Pierre!

Only partly true. Biden set energy inflation on fire right out of the gate by his ridiculous policies. Then he doubled and tripled down with the so-called infrastructure and inflation reduction acts. No, Biden owns this.

You didn't pay attention, especially the carrot his admin offered to states who did shut down (the huge spending bill at the end of his term).

Cool. (1) who is discussing this? (2) who in this thread claimed support for this? (3) what does this have to do with inflation?

Friend,
The American economy, despite what a few isolated naysayers allude, has been and is robust to say the least. The US dollar is strong, at 20 year highs this year. But you wouldn’t know it by reading this forum or the PT. The doomsayers rip eye grabbing headlines that would make the ordinary reader assume we were in a recession, all while the economy booms in reality.
Yours,
TulaneLSU
