U.S. House just voted and passed bill on major new gun control laws; with eight Republican

The bill, titled the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, passed 227-203. It received a handful of Republican votes — eight — and had one Democrat vote against. In 2019, the bill was passed with eight Republican votes, five of whom co-sponsored the package.
What H.R. 8 does and doesn't do
H.R. 8, a clean background checks package meant to enhance reviews of those seeking to acquire firearms, does not create a firearms registry or other federal mechanisms for review.
Instead, the legislation would expand the cases where a background check is required for the sale or transfer of a firearm by requiring checks for private individuals and groups whenever selling or transferring firearms, closing the so-called "Gun Show Loophole." The new requirements would also apply to online sales.
The bill makes it illegal for anyone who is not a licensed firearm importer, manufacturer or dealer to trade or sell firearms to another person; current federal law only requires background checks for licensed gun dealers.

So no person-to-person sales? How would they know?

Just spitballing here but if there’s still no registry (and God forbid there ever being one) what’s to stop a transfer between private individuals?

There is no gun show loophole.

I'm going to need a list of the traitors

Government wants their cut of all these sales. This is basically just a new tax.

Exactly it isn’t like they give you a title in your name for a firearm... no way to enforce as there isn’t a chain of custody after initial purchase

There isn’t anything to stop it. Like all other gun legislation, this is virtue signaling.
Criminals will still break the law and continue to shoot people no matter what law is passed.

Catshitty will be a yes in the Senate.

I loaned my cousin a Colt Python. He was thankful, and loaned me $475

There are millions of firearms in existence many that have already been sold person to person with no sales records, unless the ATF or some other law enforcement agency catches you in the act, this is almost unenforceable do nothing legislation.

My father passed away a few years ago. He collected firearms to represent every firing mechanism in history, so basically an antique collection. He didn't name me specifically in his will to obtain the collection, but made his wishes known before passing. They are in my possession, but we never officially transferred them into my name. They are technically in my step-mothers name being that she was sole the beneficiary of his will.
How would this bill affect people in my situation? Would we not be allowed to transfer the guns over?

I'm guessing the brain trust at Yahoo News doesn't see the contradiction there.
You can bet your arse the authors of the bill see it, and step 2 will be to make it possible to enforce it by creating a registry.

Or online loophole. I've bought plenty of guns online. They all get shipped to a FFL and you still have to do the 4473 and background check. It's just another bogeyman to scare the Karens who actually think you can get a machine gun shipped to your door from Amazon.

The bill could face opposition from Senate Republicans or conservative Democrats who do not support more restrictions on guns.

I am a conservative and have zero problem with that.

Again, no problem with that.

Now that I am uneasy about. There should be a legal way for a private citizen to sell a gun to another private citizen. Make it to where they must process the act of sale at a licensed gun dealer so the dealer could process the background check for a small fee. Of course, many would skip that and still do it anyway but at least there'd be a legal path of doing so and if the law states that's the way it has to be done, then if the person buying the gun commits a crime with the gun then the person who sold it to them (if that can be traced) should have to pay a penalty for skipping the background check. Best of both worlds, but don't prohibit a citizen from being able to sell his/her gun.

So this is basically a registry on all new gun sales. They will track the serial number to the background check.

They are not in her name most likely as she didnt purchase them. Bring them home enjoy the memories of your father every time you look at them.
