I can, however, give guns away as much as I want.
I know you don't care, but giving away a gun is still a transfer, even if nothing of value is paid for it.
I think Biden will issue an EO on guns unless the filibuster is revoked, because there is not going to be 10 senate republicans to vote for a democrat gun bill.

Isn't the background checks that already exist simply a way for the government to know who has a gun already anyway?
The background check only tells them who initially bought the gun. Then after the background check Joe Blow can tell Uncle Sam he sold the gun to Bob from down the street, and there is nothing they can do to track it.
Not so any more with this new law.

When it says transfer, does that mean I can’t lend my neighbor my gun for a hunting trip without a background check? Or even my brother for that matter?

She was the sole beneficiary of the will, so from what I understand, on paper she inherited them because I was not specifically named as the beneficiary of the firearms.
Basically they were all registered in my father's name. He passed and left my step mother as the sole beneficiary of his estate in his will. We don't have a family/succession issue as far has who the guns belong to. We never officially transferred them into my name. They were actually passed to me before he died and have been in my possession since.
It is something we have talked about doing, but it hasn't been a priority. She lives in another state so it is something that we have to plan to do and haven't.

Murk, Collins, Romney, Sasse, Burr, Cassidy, Toomey
Just need 3 more.

Instead, the legislation would expand the cases where a background check is required for the sale or transfer of a firearm by requiring checks for private individuals
quote:Oh. Not yet you mean.
does not create a firearms registry or other federal mechanisms for review.

They will keep a log of transactions, which for all purposes is a registry.

I am going to say you are guilty and look forward to an extended stay in a re-education camp.

Lol well at least I would know the reason.

Anyone who voted for this is ultimately for government control of firearm ownership. It’s meant to be subtle and the beginning of a registry and tightly controlled ownership requirements. A palatable foray into what they really want

Now apply the same process to other enumerated constitutionally protected rights like voting, speech, worship, assembly....

If Sasse votes for this, he is effectively resigning from the Senate. You could get a random challenger from the statewide pheasant club that would likely beat him.

Probably

8 Republican lawmakers voted with the Democrats to pass the “Background Checks Act” that prohibits private firearms transfers without having a background check:
Vern Buchanan (FL)
Brian Fitzpatrick (PA)
Maria Salazar (FL)
Andrew Garbarino (NY)
Chris Smith (NJ)
Fred Upton (MI)
Carlos Gimenez (FL)
Adam Kinzinger (IL)
Jared Golden (ME) was the one Democrat who voted against the bill according to a preliminary tally of votes.

Proof they have no idea how this works.
First they can person to person.
Then they push the registry.
Then they tax the frick out of you until you can't afford to keep them.

Admittedly, I did not know that. I guess this is one of those areas where I tend to be a little more moderate on. I firmly believe any American should be able to own a gun if they choose to but I also believe that with gun ownership comes great responsibility and if the government has a way of preventing someone with mental issues from owning one, then I'm not totally opposed to that. The stricter background law may be a step in that direction.
I'm smart enough to know, though, that the government could use that registry for just about anything else, too. And that bothers me.

It received a handful of Republican votes — eight — and had one Democrat vote against.
This kind of crap that infuriates me. When the GOP had both House and Senate, not a single progun bill was passed or even had a fair vote. The Hearing Protection Act was a nonstarter along with every other wishlisted bill. Now here we are watching democrats push a gun control bill not 2 months into a Biden presidency.

Easier to understand everything when you recognize the Uniparty for its true membership.
Conservative values have not held power in the legislature for many decades. The GOPe are Dems.

I don’t even have to act like I gave a gun away. I have to act like the transaction occurred before the law was passed or EO was issued.
