Until there's a state constitutional convention I'll continue to vote no on all amendments

The state constitution is a fricking abomination. It needs to be overhauled. Amendment 2 was bullshite word salad that the engaged people who vote in smaller elections saw right through.
Until they blow up the state constitution myself and many others will continue to vote no on any and all amendments. Blaming this on soros is peak stupidity.

Why is the constitution an abomination?
Posted on 3/30/25 at 8:39 am to geauxtigers87
quote:I blame it on dumbasses like you. There isn’t going to be a constitutional convention— too much vested interest in the status quo. So, the beat plan we can hope for is to fix it over time with CAs. But you are going to vote no until you get a constitutional convention, in which nearly anything can happen given those same vested interests.

Florida has the same problem as Louisiana.
Things I never thought I would say for $400, Alex.

Well, actually having a governor that's not stupid would help. That seems to be impossible for Louisiana tho.

Whether you agree with his policies or not Jon Bel runs circles around Landry intellectually

Bingo.
65% of the voters in Louisiana aren't Soros leftists. Trump won 60% just last Fall.
This one is on Gov. Landry and the Legislators. Maybe instead of "tax reform" where the same amount of money is still going to Baton Rouge only to be divided up at the annual prostitution fest every year, the Governor and politicians should try some sort of fiscal reform to offset state income tax decreases or elimination. Such as a mechanism where more money stays local, and the state government doesn't fund so much local projects and needs.
65-35 on Amendment 2 is an arse whipping, and the other three proposed amendments failed by about that same margin as well.

Florida has gotten somewhat better by requiring a 60% threshold and putting an economic cost on all amendments.
And sometimes they are not all bad. The 2024 election had 2 amendments that were Yes votes

That’s my sentiment 99% of the time. This was a tough one, because at least some of the amendments were designed to wrest some of the protections OUT of the constitution.
I hope this sends a message that the only path forward is to start over.

quote:The conundrum is that the constitution requires so much tax revenue going to DHH and education, there not a ton remaining to make meaningful cuts. I mean, there is definitely some room for cutting but not much. And with little appetite to do a constitutional convention, we’re stuck here in a catch-22.

State is a shite hole and always will be. First in the worst and last in the best. But hey we do have Mardi Gras, LSU/Saints football, and good food.

That's always going to be a question, though.
Did we want to start over during the previous eight years of Edwin Edwards wannabe who wanted to shut down businesses over masks? Do we want to now with Huey P. Landry?

I get the sentiment, but it's a ridiculous statement. A lot of the problem I've seen over the years is attempts to make single amendments which cover multiple things. Some of those may be good, but some may be bad.
At best, it's lazy legislation. At worst, it's purposefully trying to pass something that's the equivalent of adding a half gallon of horseshite to four and a half gallons of ice cream then trying to convince everyone it's five gallons of ice cream.
Break each item out and let it sink or swim on its own merits.

Thank you.
Half of the length of the constitution is Art VII. Half of the amendments to the constitution were in Art VII.
If the voters rejected changing Art VII because “it’s a complicated word salad”-how are they going to understand and support a rewrite of the entire constitution???
(Not really directed at you, Loco).

quote:Exactly. This is what gives me pause. It’s also why the piecemeal approach using CAs may be a more effective approach. I’d certainly prefer a complete re-do, but we certainly have a bunch of questionable yahoos calling the shots.

I used to say this stuff like this, then I started working with legislators. The average Louisiana legislator is dumber than the average person you would meet on the street. Couple that with the high levels of corruption compounds it. Trust me, you don’t want those idiots drafting a Constitution.

It’s an arse whipping from an uneducated ignorant electorate.
