Trump is the president elect of the United States. Why should he erect monuments to soldiers of a different country against which the U.S. was at war? He should just erect statues of Cornwallis, Yamamoto, and Rommel while he’s at it

It should be up to the states general opinion. It's not a federal issue.

Hey MetArt, you sound like a snowflake, but i’ll give you reason to honor confederate generals, because not all what you hear and read is true about the Civil War and painting the south as bad as they do.

But those same leaders have n the civil war are descendants from The Revolutionary War that gave us ultimate freedoms.

so, people need to quit hating on Southern Hero’s, the north was more racist than the south!!!

People don't build them because they look cool. They're a way to celebrate our values, and ensure those values are passed on to our children.

Those soldiers are veterans of the US Army.

When did Congress approve of said war for the US to engage in?

The majority of the reb statues were built in the early 1900s - many of them as explicit tributes to the flaring up white supremacy of the day.

For anyone who questions that here is an exercise for you. Tell me when the South fired on Fort Sumter how many slave states were in the United States and how many were in the Confederate States. If you really want to be blown away you can add Washington, DC, to the count. Oh, and don't forget Illinois. It was legal there in some counties.

I dont care when they we're built. BTW the early 1900's marked the 50th anniversary.

They serve two purposes:

1. To honor the service and sacrifice of our Confederate ancestors.
2. To piss off assholes like you.

By US Federal code Confederate soldiers are by law the same as Union soldiers. The VA provides headstones to both
