I hope he isn’t full of shite this time. We should’ve taken the strait months ago. We need to take some of the islands in the strait and have a persistent naval presence patrolling the waters.

That sounds like a seriously long term middle eastern military commitment

Shouldn't that be the job of a coordinated coalition of nations that export from the Straight (UAE, Saudi, Kuwait, Iraq) and nations that need oil from the Straight (China, India, Japan, Korea, EU, etc) ?

Why do we have to do everything?

I'm not one for explaining his strategies as "3D chess", but if there was ever a case this is it. If the US takes on 100% of the role as security provider, then "tax" those other nations.

OR, they could get off their respective arses and join us in doing the work. Their choice.

I mean hopefully that's true but he hasn't actually followed through on a lot of things he has said regarding Iran.

I like this idea. We keep the strait and we remove Iran's negotiating power.

We have an interest in keeping the global oil trade stable in trades in dollars. I’d of course welcome a coalition of the gulf nations to help out though. But they aren’t capable of doing it alone. They’ll need us to take the lead.

A while back George Friedman, of STRATFOR Intelligence Forecasting pre-RANE, wrote a book called "The Next 100 Years" and how the USA would be able to maintain its influence and power due to the US Navy protecting trade routes in every ocean water of the world.

We are seeing a real nice sample emerge.

This is basically a "you break it, you buy it" type of thing.

Why did we ever have to do anything in the first place?

Yeah, the fact we started a bombing campaign and didn’t do this is unbelievable.

People dogging you b/c you're somewhat anti-Trump, but I agree with you. Literally nothing the admin has put out regarding this war has been accurate.

"They're begging us to make a deal!" after Iran is busy sending ballistic missiles across the Gulf.

This is the worst case of rinse and repeat we've seen ever in a war.

Let's be real. Most of them don't have navies. The only real navy is probably the French and a couple of other countries who are not our friends. I'm all for making them contribute what naval assets they have. However, we need the oil to go through and not just oil but helium and other commodities that go through the straits.
