Yeah, the fact we started a bombing campaign and didn’t do this is unbelievable.

It's almost like Trump rushed into this war and said, "frick it, we're gonna wing it".

Wait, I thought the US didnt need the Strait open? What happened to getting the rest of the world to step up?

I guess this is another "you break it, you bought it" situation.

Just cut a wide canal through the middle of Oman and staff it with sharks with frickin' laser beams to cut down the pirates.

Shouldn't that be the job of a coordinated coalition of nations that export from the Straight (UAE, Saudi, Kuwait, Iraq) and nations that need oil from the Straight (China, India, Japan, Korea, EU, etc) ?

This is why you don’t go into a war against a regional power without a coalition in place. None of these countries were prepared for this or really even have the capacity to help.

Why did we have to start the conflict that made the strait close?

I hope he isn’t full of shite this time. We should’ve taken the strait months ago. We need to take some of the islands in the strait and have a persistent naval presence patrolling the waters.

Yep. Should take the surrounding islands and a good chunk of the Islamic Republic's shore too and not give it back until real regime change happens.

That would be a major loss of face for the nutjobs.

Because we thought the people would rise up and overthrow the regime. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off. We should’ve started the war in January.

Wouldn't we need to control the straight at some point in order to "keep" it?

It would be silly to think that whoever would overthrow the regime would be a Western friendly government. The reason the protestors were in the streets was to protest economic conditions. Economic conditions that we helped create.

I don’t think the expectation was ever a “pro-western” government but rather a more palatable one that didn’t threaten the entire region every chance it got. Funded terror groups across the region or kill American troops by the hundreds or maybe even thousands. Taking on the Islamic regime in Iran is probably the most righteous military action we’ve taken in generations but we’re not executing it well at all.

Dear China
Thank you for keeping gas prices from sky rocketing. Not sure why your oil demand is so low right now.

Dear Trump
Thank you for rapidity expediting the global energy transition with your gaffs in the Middle East. The Earth is grateful.

China also thanks you, as they have plenty of solar panels and EVs to sell.
