What is the % of children taking those tests?
I imagine it's going to show a larger % of the population taking the test, likely directly in proportion to the decrease in average scores.

That would cause some in theory, but I don’t think that is the driving factor. For one, more people are taking the ACT. One way to verify is to check states that are being far less impacted by imported people, say for instance New Hampshire.

there still doing better than china the average chinaman lives on 5 grand a year and china's debt to gdp sits at over 300% apparently building cities for people that don't exist is expensive.

The "America First" agenda has flown completely out the window. Business as usual with our politicians including Trump.
China was originally framed as the central long-term rival requiring firm economic pressure, investment controls, and strategic competition.
Bottom line: food = power. China can't feed its population as is, and taking over U.S. food production is a concern.
I thought Trump was tough on China, so why allow ANY of it?

It’s a stupid reason. China owns 350,000 acres of farmland, it wouldn’t affect farmland prices at all.
Americans own 850 million acres. 40-50 million acres are foreign owned with most of it being Canadians.
So Chinese owned farmland really isn’t an issue right now as it’s negligible the amount they currently own. But I agree they shouldn’t be allowed to own it

Those cities were bought by Chinese citizens (they don’t have many investment options).
Many of their citizens own numerous properties.
The issue is that people can’t afford to buy them from the original buyer.
They are going up in value, but are empty.
My guess is that the CCP will eventually buy them for a fraction of their original cost.
The CCP gets housing (for cheap), the money that they will put out will act as a stimulus, and peasant farmers can now be moved into those “ghost” cities.

I think some good can come from this trip and I appreciate Trump for taking it on. His fixation on 500k Chinese students a year is just weird. Some of it might be pressure from system Presidents and lobby groups due to many schools having pretty hefty drops in enrollment.
I dont think these foreign students are that interested in schools like Portland State or Vermont though.
