Why we are not using CIA to smuggle in weapons or pistols is beyond me. Hell, in WW2 we developed a single shot pistol to give to resistance fighters so they could kill German soldiers and take their weapons.
The best way out of this mess is home grown regime change but it can't happen if the people can't fight.

Allegedly, the CIA actually tried to do so early on in the war. The plan was to arm Kurdish militias who would invade from northern Iraq and take the oil fields while a popular uprising occurred in Tehran with protesters rallying behind former President Mahmoud Ahmedinijad (I know I am butchering that spelling). However, the former president was injured in Israeli airstrikes which rendered him unable or unwilling to participate, and the Kurds took the weapons and refused to cross the border, fearing they’d be betrayed…again.
