It will be interesting to follow. The Cartels are the real enemy here and I think Trump is setting things up so the real enemy gets the attention they deserve.

Is anyone really surprised? Trump successfully negotiated the NY real estate jungle. He knows how to use leverage and he just showed the world how it’s done, AGAIN! Makes world leaders bend the knee within days. Hope people wake up and realize the USA was getting frickED for decades until Trump has woken us up.

It goes farther up than that, they have entire divisions complicit in ignoring their operations. Another problem is that the cartels are often times better armed and trained (largely due to ex-US soldiers being paid as contractors) than their government opposition. I think that if the US is going to handle this situation, other than the Mexican government being coerced into giving it's blessing, it's military will be left out of the operation because they are compromised.
Modern Mexico is the result of multiple generations of apathy by a disinterested public in the power and politics of their nation.
