re: Truly don't understand how anyone can consider themselves an "Independent" at this point

I work under the general assumption that most people think "independently."
I become more and more suspicious, the more someone has to constantly INSIST TO ME that they do.

Probably not directly addressing your point, but there are conservative people then "conservative" politicians.
I don't consider myself independent for what it's worth, but when talking politics with people, the ideology of being conservative is rarely supported by "conservative" or "republican" politicians. Some people can't separate the conservative voter's views from the republican candidate.
Additionally, I'd wager that most conservatives on here can find a few things they don't like about Trump, but doesn't mean you can't support him or like him as president.

I don't understand how one could not. I am registered R, but both parties are cess pools and I am my own person. If being a "conservative" or "republican" is a major part of your personal identity...well to each their own.

I see what you're saying. We need better choices instead of having to pick between two parties.
Just seeing what one side is offering is enough to make me vote for the other and until they come up better options than what we have, I will guess you can consider me a Republican.

Hahaha...oh baw, you got them now!
More true is
Independent = enough guts not to follow party dictates.

I'm an independent and I'll explain it.
The Democratic party is garbage and they stand for everything I oppose, so I don't support them.
The Republican party is the controlled opposition wing of the Establishment Uniparty, and they say all the right things but they crap the bed when they have power, so I don't support them.
Hope that clears things up.
There are Congress members like Burchett, Luna and Crane that I fully support, but they are outliers trying to break the system from within in their own way. In a two-party system, I choose to not affiliate unless one of the parties chooses to represent me both in words and actions. As a whole, that scenario does not exist. And I'm not hard to please. Dismantle crony corporatocracy, defend the Constitution, let the free market be free, enforce the law and secure the borders. Do those five things and I'm damn near to good.

Spending 8 Trillion dollars every four years isn't sustainable either. Both parties are doing this.
Posted on 2/25/26 at 10:59 am to Sheriff Brackett
I won't be a part of the vile socialist Democrat party and I don't want to be affiliated with the less-vile and socialist but do-nothing Republican party.
Trump has done things and I like most of it, but it's all executive orders for a reason. If the party ever lives up to it's stated goals of smaller government, standing up for individual liberty and reducing the deficit/debt, then I'll join.

Not necessarily.
George Washington hated political parties for a reason.

I was an indedendent on voter registration because I do not like either party.
I recently registered at a Republican so I can help vote out Bill Cassidy since we are now a closed primary in Louisiana.

A lot faux conservatives abandoned Trump and became “independents”. No doubt the Democratic nominee will be super duper conservative lol imagine being that offended by Trump to essentially turn homosexual

I think that totally makes sense. It is the lesser of two evils at this point for sure. Imagine what could be accomplished if we had a national party that actually put the interests of citizens first.

Here's why. Both sides suck, just one sucks way more than the other.
I agree 100% that the left is literally satanic and evil, and their agenda is one that is meant to ruin our country.
However, the right also sucks. These assholes are begotten to Israel because they are bought and paid for through AIPAC. They give the facade that they are patriotic, America 1st, etc. etc.
Healthcare is unaffordable, yet a country of 9 million(Israel), has free healthcare, free education, etc. at the expense of the USA taxpayers and now we are about to get roped into a war that we have nothing to do with that will cost us more blood and money.

Well, there is no such thing as an honest politician.
Both sides claim the other is guilty of countless things, yet nothing ever happens to anyone.
Maybe the two party system is just smoke and mirrors to keep the people arguing and fighting.

I'm independent. I will always vote for the best candidate for me. That just happens to mean, I've never voted for a democrat in my life and don't see myself doing so. Thus, all my votes have been republican by default.
This is where I am. My first vote was in 1984 for the great Ronaldus Maximus. The only time I didn't vote for a republican was when I voted for Ross Perot. No way in hell I'd vote for a democrat.
But until the feckless Rs stop the spending and foreign aid money laundering and grifting, I'll not donate a dime or let them count me in their numbers.

No. Not no matter what.
My comment is a reflection of our current situation, not for all times.
If you look at the current world, as in right now, and can't decide which direction is better (not best, but better) between dems and pubs then you are scared and lost.
Things could be totally different in the future. I understand that this is a dynamic world.

I'm a conservative, but my poltics at the moment are as simple as being anti globalist and anti uniparty, which means I dont have a party to represent me. Ill continue to vote GOP as I have no other choice.

That's where I am.
My choice isn't better or best, good or better, bad or good, bad or worse, it's more like bad or barely tollerable.
But that's what the system has delivered to us.
