The US was in a prime position to dominate the world and let it slip through its fingers.

What people need to realize is that there must always be a dominant force on the planet. To think that everyone will just get along is foolish. Non-aggression pacts and treaties only ensure we will fight a stronger opponent down the road.

Snuff out resistance early. Make foreigners your wage slaves. It's what empires are for.

The General of the 3rd and 7th disagrees with you. We are worse off today based on supporting the communists.

We deliberately put policies and embargoes out that made a conflict with Japan inevitable. This is documented in internal memos with the Roosevelt administration.

The US made a decision early on that we were going to go to war on behalf of the British against the Germans. We chose to use Japanese aggression as the staging point to achieve this.

The premise of this thread is that this was a bad decision.

Today’s topic authored by you proves my hypothesis that you should stick to fictional stories about Hogwarts.

You do realize Germany hadn't crossed the English Channel and invaded England. The English Channel, a body of water humans have swam across. And yet, you and so many believe they would have just loaded up on ships and crossed the Atlantic to invoke a broad invasion on US soil? Come on man.

Wow, what a swell war we had

This was always going to be the case and was the plan all along. We propped up the Bolsheviks before 1917/ww1 and wouldn't let Britain make peace with Germany at Dunkirk during ww2. Hitler let the british go back across the english channel after he routed them at Dunkirk. He could have wiped them out then and there, but sent 3 different offers of peace to Churchill.

The U.S. was fighting on the side of the communists and were its major financial backers.

General Patton was right which is why they left him to die in Germany after an army truck plowed into his automobile soon after the war ended.

They did not want General George S. Patton to come home and speak the truf!!

You do realize that Nazis were communist, right? There were just to different flavors like ice cream. One was rocky road, the other was vanilla. But both are philosophies of socialism.

If the US doesn’t get involved, the world becomes a very mad place. Doesn’t matter if it would have been the Nazis or Communists, Europe and Asia would have been a shitshow.

US had to choose to fight one of the two ideologies in the war, and then fight the other one after the war. The Japs made that decision rather easy for us. Both the communists and fascists were both pretty weakened and torn up, after their brutal warfare against each other in Eastern Europe. Neither one would have been able to defeat us. Of course we bailed out the Soviets, by sending weapons, and supplies to them, but I think the US wanted the Communists and Fascists to destroy each other as much as possible, before getting involved. We joined the party whenever both sides were pretty weakened and beat up. We didn’t get the Nazis or Soviets full strength. We saw an opportunity to become the world power, whenever the world was without one.

I don't know about that.

But we should have let the German Empire win WWI.

You mean like cutting off their supply of oil with the promise of starting it back when they stopped their aggression in China which included the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in cold blood?

Also...this thread just shows how far some of you have fallen in your hatred for the opposition. Willing to ally yourselves with fascism just to score a W on the libs.

This is stupid as frick. Sorry. It just is. Perhaps we should not have partnered with Russia. That is a real question.

But fighting on the side of Germany and Japan that were engaged in brutally killing millions of innocent people is not the side I would have wanted to be on.

I went to the WW2 museum in Gdansk, Poland. The Poles suffered badly during that time. You were better off in military than being a citizen.

Germany wanted to move the Poles out of their land and replace them with Germans. The Soviets were no better to the Poles.

The problem with your argument is many. We hardly had a military and if we stay out we never build it. Then Germany takes over that part of world and could easily invade here afterwards. Or Hitler gets the bomb and blackmails us to surrender. And don’t forget about Japan they were allies of Germany but made enemies of us.

Would we be worse off than we are today, though?

I agree, we poked and prodded Japan and I also agree the Roosevelt really wanted us to go to war with Japan and agree his hands were bloody on Pearl Harbor....

But....

So, if we hadn't have done any of that, would we have avoided war with Japan? I doubt it. It just would have come a few years later.

For instance, what did Australia do to provoke Japan?
What did England do?
What did the Netherlands do?
What did the Chinese and the Koreans do?
