I don't, here's why.

In 2023, the United States had 47.8 million immigrants, including:
Naturalized citizens: 49% of all immigrants in 2022
Lawful permanent residents: 11.5 million in 2022

It appears there are enough abled bodies left to fill any void in those positions you mention. Employers might have to do a little homework to find them but they are out there.

the subs who would have to raise their rates if they were on the up and up in order to keep their same margins but that could make them uncompetitive.

here's the place to start - right after trimming the welfare roles to the truly misfortuned needy.

Go hard on tax cheats = let's spread this thing out to everyone

i.e. NO FREELOADERS - in fact let's offer a 'reward' for 'turning in a freeloader'

oh - and clean up the tax regulations to trim 'deductions' with the aim of reducing the OVERALL tax rates for those who are actually doing the work and following the rules.

The mere fact that any business large or small can side step and hire illegals is amazing. Not only are they probably not paying taxes, but then sending billions down to Mexico and Central America.

If your business has been relying on illegal labor whether hired by your business or through subcontractors, then F U. I would give businesses 6 months to self-report, and grant visa where requested and required, but after that make it very, very disadvantageous to hire illegals.

I disagree. The Mexicans do great work. It's the ones from further south who came here and are scum doing shite work. Hondurans flooded Lake Charles after the hurricanes and F'd a lot of people over. Mexicans weren't so bad.

I am just speaking from my experiences over the past 20 years as a GC and seeing the difference in Mexican crews vs others.

We E-verify and do a fairly exhaustive background check that includes a social security number check. And some sites have TWIC.

In spite of all that, some illegals still manage to get through. Usually it comes after a year or 2 and the government determines that more than one individual is contributing to a single SSN.

That’s why it’s absolutely laughable when idiots in here causally promote fining businesses for hiring illegals when a company such as ours has pretty tight protocols to prevent it.

To be honest, I have no clue who is legal and who is not, and how they make determinations. We have people applying all the time who literally can’t speak a word of English yet they pass everify, background checks and TWIC.

You hire Americans.

You blithering idiotss that think we have to have illegals to run the nation.

In the 80s they picked lettuce. Americans filled the construction trades. Once people realize being a carpenter, mason, or roofer pays better than a degree in Mating Habits of Transgender Cockroaches. The jobs will fill up again.

Bring back trade schools.

If they can pull themselves away from the Xbox and learn how to swing a hammer.

Enjoy your new house costing 25-30% more

Or in your economic literacy you'll convince yourself that the cost will actually go down?

Everytime I see that silly quote saying about how no one wants to work anymore I'm compelled to complete the statement.

d because no one wants to work anymore for the current wages.

There is no "free market" when we pay people to do nothing.

Pay Americans more money to work for you and make less money as a company.

why would an employer do that?

They;ll just find a business to operate with better margins or pass it on to consumers.

Careful with that slippery slope. Shouldn't this also apply to healthcare and accounting where we could undercut the American worker and hire Indians with HB1s? I mean, I'd like to pay 25-30% less for my healthcare and accountant work.

Remember, we did the mass importing of cheap labor back in the early 1800's. That didn't work out too great.....for anyone.

Youre way better off hiring mexicans than basement dwelling dough boys at inflated pricing.

Hire "documented" workers. But that means paying at least minimum wage, benefits, and employment taxes, doesn't it. We are living The Grapes of Wrath.

Yea I have one crew I use and they are all legal and legit. Doing what I do, when dealing with HUD contracts, I couldn't hire an illegal anyway. Everyone has to have a background check known in the industry as an ABC number. If a HUD inspector shows up to one of my sites and there is anyone without an ABC number then I am shut down and out of the industry for good. Not worth the risk.

I'd love to, but until then the "pay them more" plea has nothing to do with the free market.
