Lots of things a real country would do.
1) Food stamps should only be available for short periods to get over the hump (in between jobs, injured, etc. )
2) Should only be for meat, eggs, dairy, veggies, fruit, etc
3) Drug testing should be a requirement. If you can afford drugs, you can afford food. I might even say tobacco testing, if you can afford a $6 pack of smokes, you can afford a carton of eggs
4) Illegals should have no benefits, period. And no food stamps
5) People with children. Should get precedent.
Full disclosure. My sister is mentally handicapped, and she is on a basic food stamp program. She works a part time job, and our family helps her out the best we can in a number of ways. We all pay our taxes, so there is no shame with her receiving the food stamps since they are available, and she seems like a reasonable canidate to get them.

Oh-oh!!!! Sugar Lobby coming to your house and asking why do you hate feeding people? But you are right. But they also sneak HFCS into a lot of "Whole Grain" items on the shelf.
Also and I'm sure I'll get downvoted, we should ween anyone over the age of 7 or 8 from drinking milk....and we should make lunch the big meal of the day instead of supper at night. You eat, you go to your lazy boy, you zone out to the tube then you go to sleep....not good. Neither of them.

Ban the purchase of all processed foods that contain fructose or high fructose corn syrup via food stamps.

Last Fall there were reports out about toxins and heavy metals in Gerber baby foods. Most baby foods had them but Gerber had the highest concentrations.
Gerber issued a statement of apology But nothing about how they're getting in there or how they'll fix the problem.
It was pretty much just a PSA saying Hey, we're poisoning your kids when they're most susceptible to it.
Oopsie, Sword of Incompetence, we're going to keep doing it.
I started pureeing fresh veggies for my granddaughter but nobody else paid attention.
Same thing happens with regular vaccines for kids. They'll rag on "anti-vaxxers" but occasionally admit the shots also contain toxins and heavy metals. Oopsie...
If only we had an agency that was tasked with monitoring our foods and medicines to ensure safety...
.. oopsies..
If you want something done right, gotta do it yourself.

Apparently, big-corn is bigger than big-sugar.

Look at the mortality risk data associated with vegetable oil before we blame everything on sugar.
They are both bad news.
Cook with butter or olive oil.

Both. A little butter and olive oil mixed in the pan adds an amazing flavor to sauteed vegetables or meat cooked in the pan.

Instead of banning everything when something goes wrong can’t we entice our elected officials to get the Burger Kings & McDonald’s of the world to produce slightly healthier products?

I agree 100% that this is the problem. But banning food because it’s ‘unhealthy’ is unAmerican. Just another slippery slope created. frick that
We incentivize being poor. We penalize working. Is it any wonder we have more people leeching off the system and/or "quiet quitting" than ever?
If you want to see why we allow these things on food stamps, it's because grocers and food producers are deep-pocket lobbyists and poor, stupid people are the main staple of the Democrat Party.

It amazes me what the government allows people on food stamps to buy.
That’s because you think the purpose of Food Stamps is to make food affordable for the poor. It’s not. It’s just another vote buying scheme.

Eh, no. Drink it, don’t drink it, but it shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same discussion as fructose.

I don't drink much milk but I mean... cheese... butter... ice cream... God's gifts to man.

Ethanol metabolism is pretty well understood and there's absolutely no way to convert 90% of it to anything but waste.

Ban the purchase of all processed foods that contain fructose or high fructose corn syrup via food stamps. Fructose is metabolized almost exactly like ethanol in the liver. 90% of fructose is converted to fat, as is ethanol. 10% is converted to energy. The inverse is true for glucose (aka, dextrose in the grocery store). 10% is converted to fat and 90% to energy.
So do we need to get that ADM stock ready for a quick dump? Lol

Ban anything containing Seed/Vegetable Oils.
