I agree -- You can already see DeSantis is inserting himself as the solution -- especially with the Latino vote (which saw a 22-point swing from 2024 to 2026).
And I think he or Rubio will get it.

2028 is shaping up well for DeSantis.
I love Rubio, but I think the next two years he along with anyone else in the Trump cabinet will be laid to bare and attempted to be discredited publicly by the left. So, unfortunately, Rubio will have the Trump "stink' on him as earlier mentioned.

The problem with DeSantis is that he is not a very charismatic candidate. And I think that’s what it will take to win the nomination. Rubio and Vance have that more so than DeSantis.

Except it is sustainable. The Dems can't lose the Senate in 2028. At the very least, last night screwed our country for the next 4 years.
That's the most optimistic view. It will likely be longer.

If they try to overplay their hand here they are setting themselves up for failure. Their favorability in the polls is still historically low. You are absolutely right that this was a revolt and not an embrace.
Now the scary part is if the Dems actually play the next 2 years competently, and run someone like Ossoff in 2028. They could have total control for a long, long time. Luckily if anyone can mess up total control worse than the GOP, it's the DNC.

I wish people could understand that this election was as much about pushing away the establishment as it was about anything else. This has been building since 2016, with the only outlier being the dubious 2020 election. People want to turn the page, and the Dems seemed to have figured that out before the GOP did.
