Your melt isn’t any less melty because it was long and well written. But that’s OK because we are in the 24 hour period where melts are appropriate.
To your substance:
Maybe the economy would have been only 1 or 2% better than under JBE, but that adds up over time.
And remember we used to be better than Mississippi and they have similar demographics. How did they improve if demographics are destiny?

older? that's the Medicare teet
research? that's likely federal grants
look i'm not hating on the medical industry, but it's not going to save our economy. just think about this: how can it? healthcare is propped up by either private insurance or government entitlement (medicaid, medicare, grants, etc.). our population of private insurance has not increased, so where is this investment coming from to improve the industry?

the place that has truly declined and will not recover is the oil&gas sector. everything else is having to offset it.

there is a demographic "speed limit" to any progress
without a fundamental transformation 10 years ago, we were set on this path. a 1-2% increase isn't keeping up with TX (or MS, or AL)

i am not sure but i imagine their structure of state government is entirely different
LA government, both in its structure and culture, is corrupt and basically just enriches the political class at the expense of the population anytime outside investment is presented. it's the LA way

no? look at per capita incomes in LA. take note of what's happened to them at the same time as the population decline.

Meh, we are way less corrupt than before Katrina especially at the state level.
Our education policies are working despite JBE. I think there is agreement on early childhood funding which is probably the policy that will move the needle the most.
I think you, who often touts how there is a straight forward path for the poor to improve their future, are being overly fatalistic. So for you, I see this as a melt.

the problem in your argument is the assumption that Rispone could do/fix anything
Granted, no guarantees. But, we HAD to move in a new direction & vote Rispone out in 4 years IF he was incompetent too. I work in the largest revenue producing industry this state offers. This I know & it’s not any melt, it’s fact...this Governor will crush revenue as soon as the next 3 fiscal qtrs.
It is what it is. There are many business decisions to be made that will not benefit La.
Voters fell for the used car salesman...err trial lawyer.

Offshore oil dying has nothing to do with the Governor and everything to do with the price of a barrel of oil, just so we are clear.

There ARE Solutions
1. Get rid of the state income tax
2. Hold a constitutional convention to allow for common sense budget reform
3. Lower any taxes that inhibit businesses from starting and operating here
4. Drop napoleonic law
5. Cut entitlements
The problem is no one has the balls to do these things

LC hasn’t added tens of thousands of jobs. We have added quite a good bit of high paying permanent jobs, but we laid off tens of thousands of workers over the last year due to the jobs being completed.
So that’s not entirely accurate

show me a future path
How can he show you a future path when his guy (Edwards) could not.
You rail about Rispone not having plans, but unlike Edwards he wanted a Constitutional convention to rewrite our tax code, he wanted to fix ITEP that Edwards broke, he wanted tort reform and he wanted to reward achievement in education and not these across the board raises, He was for vouchers, trade schools, concrete highways and fir getting rid of the clerks at DOTD.
Now he obviously did a poor job of pushing that message, but JBE didn’t tell us anything either.
The Dem machine won this thing with RINO help. Too many like what they see now.
75,000 folks left La. for greener pastures since Edwards first won. How many were conservative voters? How many were dissatisfied voters? IMO, that also hurt.

I didn't watch the debates but didn't Rispone promise jobs and lower taxes?

ignore politics or parties for a second. look at the state. we are a poor state without good job opportunities for educated people and it's expensive to live in good parts of the state (especially those around what few upper middle class jobs exist). our demographic tipping point hit a few years ago (and no, this isn't a race thing or coded language. anyone who has lived in LA for any period of time knows we have no shortage of trashy white people relying on government entitlements)
oil, especially offshore, is dying. LC has propped up the economic numbers of this state the past 4-5 years but that's going to slow down in the coming years. we have nothing else other than government (which is no way to grow a state)
ETA: dem policies infect like cancer like NGO's. Ya'll are fricked.
