These melts are hilarious but the fact remains: LA has no future

now JBE is going to accelerate this decline, but the problem with the choice yesterday was that you can't name a legitimate policy that Rispone offered to change anything. he just said he was a Trump supporter, not JBE, and then referenced vague, lower-level topics like "tort reform"
but it doesn't really matter because even if Rispone pulled a great term out of his arse, LA is still gone
ignore politics or parties for a second. look at the state. we are a poor state without good job opportunities for educated people and it's expensive to live in good parts of the state (especially those around what few upper middle class jobs exist). our demographic tipping point hit a few years ago (and no, this isn't a race thing or coded language. anyone who has lived in LA for any period of time knows we have no shortage of trashy white people relying on government entitlements)
oil, especially offshore, is dying. LC has propped up the economic numbers of this state the past 4-5 years but that's going to slow down in the coming years. we have nothing else other than government (which is no way to grow a state)

Looks like Trumpony supporters are not handling the loss very well

I didn't see any solutions in that post.

this is overly gloomy, and it overestimates how important the industrial construction in LC has been
we'll continue to plod along as we adjust from the decline in the last few years from oil production support, but will eventually adjust. we have to, since we don't have productive frack formations here.

Maybe you just lack vision.

Things have been shitty in Louisiana forever and they would have stayed shitty no matter who takes over. If we’re going to be stuck with a Democrat, I’d honestly want it to be JBE. All these doomsday theories are bullshite.

New Orleans has tourism. Lol.
The River Parishes have refineries.
Lake Charles has LNG.
Monroe has Duck Dynasty.
That’s about all I got.

I don’t think it is as much about that as it’s a frustration that folks just continue to support and vote for guys that are sure to keep the state last. There is no vision with Edwards.
It’s not just Edwards, but the last several governors. The state is a shithole for a reason and it didn’t get that way overnight. Clearly, it won’t be fixed overnight, but I didn’t see any candidate making a mess to fix a mess. Just more of the same tired stuff.

Have an upvote.
It's incredibly sad what's happened over the last 10 years.

the population of people who will destroy institutions and stress the government while having only the lowest economic potential have gotten too big of a demo and are growing. no industry worth a shite will move here with that population as its working base (especially with all the crime/cost/education issues), and that base is fully incapable of creating new industry
our economic future is basically dead. we don't have the capital or work force for a better future, so why would any opportunities come here? we already have had to bribe industries to come here and that isn't even working anymore.

Do you think that LA could invest in renewable energy as oil declines to eventually have that as an economic driver to stay afloat? As renewable sector grows LA could hop on board early.

you should take your own advice, and look closer at the timing
look at the time period everyone has crowed at LA jobs declining over the last year. in the exact same period, several industrial construction projects have wound down, and construction employment has fallen by more than 10k within the year. everything else has done enough to stay mostly steady since last year. the place that has truly declined and will not recover is the oil&gas sector. everything else is having to offset it.
as for a future path, you can look at what has grown for yourself and see. it's not government. it's health services, and to a lesser extent professional services & educational services.
